The Sauerland Schützenbund (SSB) is the umbrella organization for all shooting clubs and brotherhoods in the Sauerland in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

The Olpe district took the first step towards merging the shooting clubs, societies, communities and brotherhoods in 1923 with the establishment of the shooting association for the Olpe district . This was the reason to forge close contacts between the boards of the Schützenbund for the Olpe district and the Sauerland Heimatbund in order to bundle domestic, Sauerland interests.

After a number of conversations, the Sauerland Schützenbund, or SSB for short , was founded on December 15, 1929 at the Zur Post inn in Wenholthausen . The district rifle associations Arnsberg , Brilon and Olpe joined him as members. In 1930 the Meschede District Rifle Association followed and in 1934 the Lippstadt District Rifle Association .

1937 all gun clubs and associations were the German Association protecting the Reich Federation for Physical Education assumed lost their independence, were brought into line and to the National Socialist state being incorporated. During the Second World War , the club and association activities came to a standstill and were completely banned by the occupying powers after the war until the end of the 1940s.

The club life only gradually normalized and on November 18, 1953, the Sauerland Schützenbund was re-established in Meschede . Initially, the district rifle associations Arnsberg, Brilon and Meschede belonged to him. Olpe and Lippstadt were added in 1955, Iserlohn in 1963 and Soest in 1971. Today the SSB has 347 member associations with around 140,000 members.

tasks

As an umbrella organization, it sees itself today as a “service organization” for its member associations. It advises its members on general, fundamental economic and tax issues. Under the motto of "Faith, Customs, Home", it bundles the interests of its members and thus promotes unity and citizenship.

Federal shooting festival

The Federal Rifle Festival takes place every three years at different locations in the Sauerland . There, the federal king and, since 1998, the federal young rifle king is determined from all reigning kings of the member associations. The first federal rifle festival after the Second World War took place on September 15 and 16, 1954 in Schmallenberg .

Memberships and cooperations

Sporting shooting by the SSB clubs was made possible by a partnership agreement concluded in 1969 with the Westphalian Schützenbund . In addition, the Sauerland Schützenbund maintains good contacts with the major shooting associations in North Rhine-Westphalia and has been a member of the EGS, the European Association of Historical Shooters , since 1980 . Since 1992, the SSB is the Local Court Meschede in the register of associations registered.
