The Westphalian Schützenbund 1861 e. V. (WSB) is a regional association of the German Shooting Federation in Westphalia and Lippe. His area of responsibility is congruent with the former province of Westphalia and the state of Lippe . The WSB is a member of the State Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia . The number of its members is around 82,000. The seat is in Dortmund , where the office and the state performance center are also located.

With the state performance center (LLZ) for sport shooting in North Rhine-Westphalia and the federal base for shooting sports, the WSB has been operating the largest covered shooting range in the world since 1983. This sports facility is suitable for all Olympic disciplines with the exception of target shooting . Since the establishment of the Olympic training centers, the state performance center has also been an Olympic training center and is part of the Westphalia Olympic training center in Dortmund.

history

The Westfälische Schützenbund was founded in 1861 as the umbrella organization for all shooting clubs in the provinces of Westphalia and Lippe. After the Second World War , the victorious powers banned shooting clubs. When this was repealed in the young Federal Republic of Germany , the WSB was re-established at a meeting in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle in February 1951. The Westphalian Rifle Day has been held regularly since 1951. This rifle meeting with more than a thousand participants during the big rifle parade is organized by changing member associations and circles. The 70th Westphalian Rifle Day took place on October 10, 2019 in Herford.

Memberships

The association is a member of the German Shooting Federation. This forms the umbrella organization for sport shooters in Germany and is in turn a member of international associations such as the International Shooting Sport Federation or the German Olympic Sports Confederation . Individuals are not directly members of the Westfälischer Schützenbund. Their membership exists through the affiliated member association to which they belong. These almost 900 clubs represent 82,000 members of the Westphalian Rifle Federation. Through membership in the WSB, the respective sport shooters are also members of the State Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia.
