The Bayerischer Sportschützenbund ( BSSB ) is an umbrella organization for sport shooting in Bavaria . It has 469,319 members in 4,601 associations (as of 2016). This makes it the largest national association of the German Shooting Federation (DSB).

organization

As a state umbrella organization, the Bavarian Sports Shooting Association is an independent professional association and not a member of the Bavarian State Sports Association . The state associations of sport shooters are autonomous with regard to their self-administration and their sporting rules, provided that they implement the regulations made for the DSB within the framework of the recognition procedure according to § 15 WaffG . The regional associations are authorized, on the basis of their own approved regional disciplines, to express endorsements under the law of weapons for their own territorial area. The Bavarian Sport Schützenbund has also included shooting with the orderly rifle , lever action rifle , small - bore multi-loader rifle , traditional fire socket , traditional room socket and large-caliber combination competition as special disciplines in the competition program.

history

The BSSB is the successor organization of the "Oberbairischer Zimmerstutzenverband", which was dissolved in 1933 as part of the coordination .

After the Second World War , it was necessary to rebuild club life from 1948 onwards, the societies and clubs were again allowed by the Allies to fire with air guns. The request for an umbrella organization was quickly expressed. Brewmaster and rifle master Heinrich Brotzler from the Munich Main Rifle Society invited the Bavarian riflemen and representatives of the districts to the first Oktoberfest state shooting in 1950 . On September 23, 1950, 60 riflemen took part in the founding meeting on this occasion. The majority of the participants agreed on the name "Bayerischer Sportschützenbund". Since 1954 the BSSB has been under the protectorate of the head of the House of Wittelsbach , since 1996 Franz Duke of Bavaria .

Musically, the BSSB has been accompanied by the Hörgertshausen minstrel band since 1963 and by the Au Marktkapelle since the mid-2000s .

The German Schützenbund was founded in Gotha in 1861 and re-established in Frankfurt am Main in 1951 after the Second World War . It is the largest umbrella organization for sport shooters in Germany.

Oktoberfest country shooting

One of the traditions stipulated in the statutes is the Oktoberfest country shooting, which is currently held in a 10 m shooting range in the rifle tent at Oktoberfest. In this context, the state rifle king is also shot out with an air rifle and air pistol. The 1st Oktoberfest country shooting took place in 1896. Because of the First World War , the Oktoberfest and with it the shooting was canceled a total of 5 times from 1914 to 1918. Also twice because of the inflation in 1923/1924. Further failures had to be accepted because of the Second World War from 1939 to 1945. Also in 1946 and 1947 there was no Oktoberfest and no shooting, in 1948 and 1949 only so-called "autumn festivals" took place, of course without shooting, because the Allies had forbidden the possession and use of any firearms. After the (re) establishment of a Bavarian federation in 1950, the Bavarian Sport Schützenbund (BSSB) and the approval of air rifles by the Allied authorities, the tradition of regional shooting was revived and in 1951 the first post-war shooting took place. The national shooting has developed over time into the largest prize shooting in the world. The number of participating marksmen and guests is around 9,000 people every year. The proclamation of the state rifle kings takes place on the last Oktoberfest Sunday.

Hochbrück shooting range

After the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , the BSSB took over the Olympic shooting range in Garching- Hochbrück under heritable building rights as a training and performance center. In 1984 the facility was expanded when the air guns became Olympic. It is currently the largest civilian shooting range with fully electronic shooting ranges . The final matches in Hochbrück have been broadcast live on the Internet since 1997 . The hits are recognized electronically and with the aid of computers, so that the audience can participate directly in the action. In June 2006, the Olympic shooting range was bought for 1,721,600 euros after a purchase offer from the Federal Agency for Real Estate Tasks , which was financed by a one-time increased membership fee.
