The Thuringian Schützenbund is an umbrella organization for sport shooters in Thuringia . The seat of the association is Suhl; Since January 1st, 2009 his office has been in the Suhl shooting center .

The Thuringian Schützenbund was founded on July 13, 1861 under the protectorate of Duke Ernst II of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in the Gotha city hall. The first president was Gotthilf Albert Sterzing (born February 26, 1822 in Zella St. Blasii , † October 17, 1889 in Gotha ). The re-establishment took place on September 1, 1990 in Erfurt .

According to its statutes, the Thuringian Schützenbund is politically, ideologically and denominationally neutral. The focal points of the association's work are:

  • the promotion of shooting sports in all areas and the maintenance and organization of sports shooting according to the guidelines of the German Shooting Federation and the association's own guidelines
  • the preservation and care of the shooting custom and the tradition of shooting
  • the representation of the interests of its members towards higher-level associations or authorities and institutions
  • the training and further education of sport shooters and volunteers of the member clubs, the shooting groups and the association
  • the uniform presentation of sport shooting and the shooting tradition in public

Sports

A key area of ​​the Thuringian Shooting Association is the promotion and development of competitive sport in the Olympic shooting disciplines . The outstanding athlete in the ranks of the TSB was the 3-time Olympic champion and 4-time world and 13-time European champion with the rapid-fire pistol Ralf Schumann (Förderverein SSZ Suhl), who ended his active career in 2012 and is now working as a trainer. TSB currently has two athletes in the "Top Team Rio", Christiane Göhring (Trap, FV SSZ Suhl) and Nadine Messerschmidt (Skeet / FV SSZ Suhl), so hot contenders for participation in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro In addition, there are a number of promising squad athletes such as Christian Freckmann (Schnellfeuerpistole / SG Rockstedt), Maximilian Schenk (Schnellfeuerpistole / BSC Erfurt) and also Tino Mohaupt, already a two-time Olympic participant (air rifle / FV SSZ Suhl) is doing well. But also young talents such as Katrin Wieslhuber (Skeet, Junior European Champion 2015 and Junior Vice World Champion 2014), Felix Raab (Skeet / FV SSZ Suhl) or in the bow sector Michelle Kroppen, Adrian Scheiding and Konrad Komischke (all GuthsMuts Jena) are an expression of the successful youth work in the association.

The Thuringian Schützenbund is run on a voluntary basis. The highest body is the delegates' assembly, which meets every two years. Other decision-making bodies are the full board and the presidium, which is elected for four years each.
