Deifeld is a village in the Hochsauerlandkreis in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ). It belongs to the city of Medebach and has 254 inhabitants.

history

In the years 1215 and 1237 a farm in Deifeld was first mentioned in a document; However, the place must be older, as it already had its own church at that time .

In the 13th century, a knightly family von Develde is mentioned several times as resident. The noble lords of Büren were fortunate with land and tithe .

Since 1410 the place belonging to the Free County of Düdinghausen had its own jurisdiction.

In 1816 the later Wissinghausen, first mentioned in a document in 1266, was incorporated.

In March 1945 there were 240 locals and 340 evacuees in the Deifeld community (including Wissinghausen). The evacuees came from cities they had left because of the bombing. A food store had also been moved to the village. On March 12th, a service and repair team of the Wehrmacht was moved to the community. Most of the soldiers were Lithuanians. On March 23, a Lithuanian Wehrmacht soldier was buried in the village cemetery after he was killed in a low-flying attack on a business trip near Brilon. Hundreds of US tanks drove through Deifeld on March 29 without a fight. The Wehrmacht column allowed itself to be captured without a fight. On April 1, a German scouting party of five soldiers reached the village and was shot at by an American assault gun. A German soldier fell and was later buried in the village cemetery. Three wounded Germans were transported to the US hospital. After eight US tanks were destroyed in the battle for Deifeld and the surrounding area, the US troops withdrew briefly. In a counterattack, Deifeld was taken again and 25 German soldiers captured. When German soldiers conquered Wissinghausen again on April 2nd, Deifeld was evacuated by April 5th. During the Second World War, 28 Deifelder and Wissinghausers, mostly on the Eastern Front , died as soldiers or died in captivity.

On July 1, 1969, Deifeld was incorporated into Medebach.
