history

Church of St. Marien Römershagen

Until the municipal reorganization of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Römershagen was the seat of one of the two communities that formed the Wenden office . The municipality Römershagen consisted of the districts Dörnscheid, Döingen, Römershagen, Heid, Rothenborn, Rothemühle, Bebbingen, Schwarzbruch and Huppen.

In the course of the reorganization, the municipalities of Römershagen and Wenden were merged on July 1, 1969 to form the new municipality of Wenden, which is the same area as the old Wenden office.

coat of arms

Former municipal coat of arms

Blazon : "Divided by red and silver, above a silver sword with the point to the right with a round pommel a silver shell, below a continuous black cross."

The coat of arms of the former municipality of Römershagen showed the scallop shell and thus identified the place with its church as a station on the Jakobspilgerweg . The sword is a reference to the free chair that used to exist here . The black bar cross reminds of the former affiliation to Kurköln .

Church of St. Marien Römershagen

The parish church Maria regina coeli zu Römershagen was built in 1718 by Michael Spanner . The church is a simple hall building in Gothic style with a three-sided 3/8 end. The Romanesque tower is said to have originally been a defense tower.

The altar dates from the first half of the 18th century and is decorated with baroque figures of saints. Johann Nikolaus Düringer's pulpit is from 1734.

Today the parish of St. Marien Römershagen belongs to the pastoral association Wendener Land.
