Girkhausen is a district of the municipality of Wenden in the Sauerland , North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

geography

The place is at the turn around five kilometers east of Wenden within the Ebbegebirge nature park . The headwaters of the Wende are located east of Girkhausen in the nature reserve Wendequellgebiet . Landstrasse 714 and Kreisstrasse 11 lead through the village.

history

In 1536 Girkhausen belonged to the court of Wenden. Early clues about the size of the place can be found in an appraisal register (which was used to collect taxes) for the year 1543. According to this, there were three appraisers in Girkhausen at that time "Berringhaußen", later "Geringhhuißen". The number should have agreed with the courtyards or houses that existed at the time.
