The Lichtebach (in the lower reaches of Wöstenbach ) is a 19 km long orographically right tributary of the Lutter in Bielefeld and in the district of Gütersloh in North Rhine-Westphalia .

course

The Lichtebach rises in the northwest of the Bielefeld district of Quelle from a spring pot on the southern slope of the Hünenberg and then flows off in a south-westerly direction following the flattening of the Teutoburg Forest .

After a little more than two kilometers of flow, the right-hand side of the Flaßbach flowing in from the north is taken. The water then leads northwest past Ummeln and in this section runs only slightly below the Bielefeld north-west border. To the west of Holtkamp , the Lichtebach finally enters the area of the city of Gütersloh and flows through the districts of Hollen , Ebbesloh and Niehorst in a south-west direction .

To the northeast of Niehorst, the body of water reaches the Am Lichtebach wet meadow protection area and takes in the Steinbach on the right-hand side of the protected area. To the west of this area, the Lichtebach enters the urban area of Harsewinkel , passes the Hühnermoor nature reserve to the north and then centrally crosses the Marienfeld district . West of Marienfeld, the body of water known as Wöstenbach in this area flows into the Lutter on the right.

The Lichtebach overcomes a height difference of 68 meters along its course, resulting in an average bed gradient of 3.6 ‰.

environment

In the area of the city of Bielefeld, the Lichtebach is assigned to water quality class II throughout its entire course, which results in moderate pollution of the water. In order to restore the course of the stream as a natural habitat, reservoirs and bank barriers have been removed in the spring area in recent years.
