history

In 1151 Ebbesloh was mentioned for the first time in a document from Paderborn Bishop Bernhard I as "Meppedisla". In it, Bernhard I confirms that the Herford abbess Godesti has transferred various goods to her St. Marienstift on the mountain near Herford - one of these goods is Ebbesloh. However, since the document was written more than 100 years after Godesti's death, it can be assumed that Ebbesloh already existed between 1002 and 1040, the term of office of the abbess, and even before. In 1198 Pope Innocent III confirmed . the Marienfeld Abbey whose farms in "Meppeteslo".

In 1969 the Ebbesloh local council decided to join the city of Gütersloh and thus spoke out against the possible connection to the city of Bielefeld . This assignment came into effect on January 1, 1970. Through the territorial reform of 1973 Ebbesloh became part of the Gütersloh district .

Four objects from Ebbesloh, two farmhouses and two Deelentorgestelle are on the list of architectural monuments in Gütersloh .

Justification of the coat of arms: The horse stands for horse breeding and the Ebbesloh stud . The red rafter stands for the former affiliation to the Grafschaft Ravensberg . The base of the shield shows the coat of arms of the Counts of Rietberg , who were once influential landlords here.

Ebbesloh is characterized by scattered settlement . There is no town center in the classic sense. After the Second World War, however, a small settlement with single-family houses emerged .

Ebbesloh is strongly characterized by agriculture.

Horse breeding and equestrian sport: Richard Kaselowsky founded the Ebbesloh Stud in Ebbesloh in 1926, one of the most renowned thoroughbred studs in Germany, which was later run by the von Schubert family from Bielefeld . With Heinrich-Wilhelm Johannsmann , the vice-European champion in show jumping (team) from 1979 comes from Ebbesloh. His son, Alexander Johannsmann, is married to the German-Danish dressage rider Nathalie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg .
