history

Some of the oldest traces of human activity were found in Hollen in today's urban area of Gütersloh. A settlement site and two urn cemeteries from the Bronze / Iron Age are on the list of soil monuments in Gütersloh .

In 1198, Hollen was first mentioned in a document from Bishop Bernhard I of Paderborn as "Honlo". In it, Bernhard I confirms the claim to a tithe in Hollen and Ebbesloh at Marienfeld Monastery . This tithe was given to the monastery when it was founded by the Münster bishop Hermann II . At the beginning of the 13th century, possessions of the Herzebrock monastery are documented in Hollen .

In 1969 the Holler municipal council decided to join the city of Gütersloh and thus spoke out against the possible connection to the city of Bielefeld . This assignment came into effect on January 1, 1970. With the territorial reform of 1973 , Hollen became part of the Gütersloh district .

Religions

Hollen belongs to the parish of Isselhorst . Hollen never had its own church. Of the 362 residents with their main residence in Hollen (as of December 2000), 273 or 75.4% are Protestant and 42 or 11.6% are Catholic . 47 or 13.0% belong to another or no religious community.

coat of arms

Description : In a split shield in front in a silver field under a red rafter an upturned blue scythe leaf , behind in a red field a half golden eagle at the gap.

Meaning: The scythe characterizes Hollen as a rural community. The red rafter stands for the former affiliation to the Grafschaft Ravensberg . The base of the shield shows the coat of arms of the Counts of Rietberg , who were once influential landlords here.

Economy and Infrastructure

Hollen and its surroundings are strongly characterized by agriculture. Along the connecting road between Marienfeld and Bielefeld (L806) a small closed settlement has formed, surrounded by fields and meadows. There is a restaurant there - also frequented by guests from other Gütersloh districts and from Bielefeld - as well as several craft and small businesses. Not far from the settlement are the buildings of the Clüsener distillery and the Dreesbeimdieke mill.

In addition to the restaurant, the riding hall , and in summer also the riding and driving area next to Hof Meyer zu Hollen, are a social meeting point.

In the building of the old Holler school, built in 1931 and closed in 1968, there is now a Waldorf kindergarten .

Clubs and events

The equestrian club Steinhagen - Brockhagen -Hollen was created in June 2013 through the merger of the rural riding and driving club Hollen with the breeding, riding and driving club Steinhagen. The Hollen Rural Riding and Driving Association was re-established in 1947 after the Hollen riding group, founded in 1934, disbanded during World War II. The association had more members than Hollen has inhabitants (in 2000 there were 400 members), so it also attracted horse lovers and equestrian enthusiasts from the neighboring communities.

The Landjugend Hollen is active in the entire parish of Isselhorst .

Every year there is a big Easter bonfire in Hollen .

Attractions

The Hugo farm, which today belongs to the Prante family, is located on the Reithallenweg. The house was originally built for the governor Bertram Hugo. It is marked on the gate beam in 1656. The half-timbered building with a loft- like porch is provided with flat carvings on the front, like the Valepagenhof from Delbrück , which has been rebuilt today in the LWL open-air museum in Detmold . The gable of house Prante stands with three other objects from Hollen - another yard in Reithallenweg, the farm Meier to Hollen and a residential and commercial building of 1912 (later restaurant "Mams" or "happy & kicking") - on the list the monuments in Gütersloh .
