Nordhorn is a district of the East Westphalian district town of Gütersloh in North Rhine-Westphalia .
history
Nordhorn was first mentioned in 1088 as "Northornon" in the Herzebrocker Heberolle . The name probably refers to the location of the farmers in the northernmost part of the Rheda rule .
One of the germinal lines of the farmers was the Meierhof Nordhorn, which stood where the Nordbad is today. From 1843 to 1910 Nordhorn belonged to the municipality of Gütersloh-Land in the Gütersloh district before it was incorporated into the town of Gütersloh.
No independent village center developed in Nordhorn. The construction of the Prussian Chaussee in 1822 (today the B 61 ) divided the peasantry into a north-east and a south-west part, which was reinforced by the parallel tracks of the Cologne-Minden railway line , which opened in 1847 . However, the farmers benefited from the growth of the core city of Gütersloh and the good transport links (stations of the Cologne-Mindener and Teutoburger-Wald railways ) early on . An industrial district was built east of the railway line by the First World War. Numerous companies such as Miele and the silk weaving mill Bartels settled in Nordhorn, and residential estates developed in the vicinity.
The area along the B 61 in particular is now clearly characterized by commercial space. The former cultural landscape of the 19th century has been almost completely lost. In contrast to other districts of Gütersloh, the population in Nordhorn has little or no awareness of the district.
The newer leisure and recreational facilities in the Nordhorn area include the Nordbad, Mohns Park and the Schlingbrede green area.
One of three Islamic community centers in the Gütersloh urban area is the Selimiye Mosque in Nordhorn.
Architectural monuments
The economic development of the former farmers is documented by several industrial monuments among the architectural monuments of the city of Gütersloh , including the water tower of the Miele company, water crane and buffer stops at the TWE train station, the former pasta factory C. H. Diestelkamp and the spherical gas container of the Gütersloh public utilities .
