River course

The Reinkebach in the headwaters

The Welplagebach rises as Reinkebach south of the Gütersloh district of Friedrichsdorf and flows off in a westerly direction. The Reinkebach initially crosses rural meadows and after around three kilometers of flow northwest of Avenwedde- Mitte it is dammed to the Reinkebach rainwater retention basin, also known locally as "Avenwedder See" .

In the further course, the body of water largely forms the northern limit of the Gütersloh settlement focus and is called Schlangenbach in this area. To the north-west of Gütersloh, the Schlangenbach passes the grounds of the Princess Royal Barracks used by the British Army .

After the inflow on the right side of a nameless 3.5 km long brook flowing from the farmers of Oester, the body of water changes its name again and is henceforth called the Welplagebach. Shortly before this inflow, the stream crossed the border to the town of Harsewinkel and then turns northwest towards the Marienfeld district .

South of Marienfeld the Welplagebach flows to the right of the valley ditch; a canal-like flood, built among other things for flood protection, which runs as the main arm of the "old" Lutter, which runs further north.

The Welplagebach then flows into the Lutter around 200 meters after the tributary of the valley trench.
