history

The history of the place is closely linked to the history of the Marienfeld monastery .

On January 1, 1973 Marienfeld was incorporated into Harsewinkel.

religion

During the time of the Marienfeld Monastery, the Catholic faithful in Marienfeld belonged to the parish of Harsewinkel. After the dissolution of the monastery, the King of Prussia founded the Catholic parish of Marienfeld in a document dated July 6, 1804. Part of the foundation was that the former departmental church in Marienfeld with all its bells, altars, organ and cupboards was left to perform God's service .

The Evangelical Lutheran Christ Church

For the year 1939 there are 98 Evangelical Lutheran believers in Marienfeld who belonged to the Evangelical parish in Brockhagen. Since the number of Protestants rose sharply due to immigration after the Second World War, Harsewinkel and Marienfeld were assigned an assistant preacher. In 1954, an independent parish was established in Harsewinkel and its own church was built. In Marienfeld, the services initially took place in the former abbey church. In 1964 the newly built Christ Church in Marienfeld was handed over to its intended purpose.

coat of arms

Marienfeld coat of arms

The municipal coat of arms shows a shield divided into silver and green, the upper field of which is covered with a black, gold-armored and red-tongued lion growing from the shield division , while on the lower field there are three silver, twelve- petalled Marian flowers with gold hallmarks and stems.

When designing the coat of arms for Marienfeld in 1937, various historical models were available. However, religious symbols and the general Cistercian coat of arms were ruled out after the state was stopped at the time. The coat of arms of the nobleman Widukind von Rheda , founder of the monastery, alone gave the wrong impression. A middle ground was therefore chosen: the shield was divided horizontally. In the upper silver half there is a growing black lion with a red tongue and gold reinforcement. The depiction comes from the tomb of the knight Widukind. The lower half is green with three maria flowers. One speaks of a “ talking coat of arms ” for the name of the place, which is derived from the founding of the monastery “campus sanctae mariae” - Marienfeld.

On January 10, 2007, the Kirchner company from Bad Hersfeld received the order for the new construction and maintenance in the PPP process of an eastern bypass, which was planned as a bypass and relief road. Eight bridges, a level crossing, two roundabouts (as a connection), a feeder to a sports center (including parking boxes) and a noise barrier had to be built on the 1.3 km long road. The road connects to Klosterstrasse (L 927) in the south and Bielefelder Strasse (L 806) in the north. The city of Harsewinkel put the total volume for this project at EUR 5.7 million. However, funding from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia was also included. In North Rhine-Westphalia it is the first municipal road construction project to be carried out using the PPP procedure . In short, this means that the construction company builds the road and is responsible for its condition for 30 years. The company received partial amounts according to construction phases and has received a kind of rent from the city of Harsewinkel since completion. Construction began on February 1, 2007. After the first clearing work on the northern course of the new tangent had already taken place in February, the basic shape of the noise barrier was built at the southern end on March 26, 2007 and the route was leveled over these first meters. particularities

our village should become more beautiful

In 1979 Marienfeld first took part in the national competition Our village should become more beautiful . With the second participation in 1981, the silver plaque could be achieved at district and state level. Thanks to further efforts by the Marienfelder Siedlerbund, it was possible to win the gold plaque at the district and state level as well as the silver plaque at the federal level at the third and last participation in 1983. From January 31 to February 1, 1984, the award ceremony was held in Berlin by the Federal Minister of Agriculture, Ignaz Kiechle . This was followed by invitations by member of the Bundestag Ottfried Henning and a visit to Federal President Karl Carstens in Bonn. Since then, Marienfeld has also been called "Golddorf".

Postal independence 1987

Before the communal territorial reform, the community could be reached via the postcode “4831 Marienfeld”. From January 1, 1973, Marienfeld was assigned to the city of Harsewinkel and the post office destination was changed to "4834 Harsewinkel 2". At the initiative of the Heimatverein, it was possible to regain postal independence on August 1, 1987. In the justification of the Federal Post Office it can be read: Only for a very few parts of the municipality of outstanding historical importance, with which cultural and social values are closely linked worldwide, should be checked whether their place names can be approved in advance as destination information. This information was therefore changed to "4834 Marienfeld". The post office in Gütersloh brought out a souvenir sheet with a coat of arms, a monastery drawing, a postage stamp and the stamp of the day August 1st 1987 In the course of the postal code reform in 1993, the location "33428 Marienfeld" was retained.
