history

As early as 1530 there were first Lutheran efforts in Warendorf and the surrounding area, but these were held down in Marienfeld by the Cistercian monastery . The following Counter-Reformation strengthened the Münsterland in Catholicism .

In 1867 Evangelicals lived in the office of Harsewinkel , because they were assigned to the Evangelical parish in Brockhagen . Since no church services were held in Harsewinkel, they had to attend church services in Brockhagen, often with rented horse-drawn carts.

In 1939, 285 of the 6,353 inhabitants in the Harsewinkel district were Protestants, 98 of whom lived in Marienfeld. After the Second World War , the number of Protestants increased sharply. A large part comes from the bombed cathedral , most of which returned home. Later, a large stream of expellees from Silesia , East Prussia and Pomerania came to Harsewinkel and Marienfeld. On Good Friday 1946 the first transport from Reichenbach arrived in Marienfeld, later a larger one from Groß- Wilkau .

In 1945 Harsewinkel and Marienfeld were looked after by an assistant preacher Meschke, and in 1946 by the deacon Rudolf. Pastor Viehage from Isselhorst looks after the Protestants in Marienfeld at times . A pastor Horstmann from Brockhagen occasionally held services in Harsewinkel. In 1947 Pastor Scholz from Baumgarten in Silesia was commissioned to do pastoral work in Marienfeld and Harsewinkel. Rooms for the service were not yet available.

As early as 1950–52, the community in Harsewinkel was independent on some points. In 1951, Harsewinkel and Marienfeld got a branch of the church treasury Brockhagen. In the same year Pastor Vethake was given pastoral care in Harsewinkel. He bought a piece of land and had a rectory built in Harsewinkel. On March 1, 1952, the second pastorate was moved from Brockhagen to Harsewinkel. On November 30, 1953, Pastor Martin Johanningmeier was elected for this position.

The Protestant services in Marienfeld initially took place in the old Catholic abbey church. In 1954, a room for church services was set up in the former farm buildings of the monastery, which were then used as a school. On July 1st of the year the Protestant parish for Harsewinkel and Marienfeld was founded. The second pastorate from Brockhagen was transferred to Harsewinkel. At this time the Protestant church in Harsewinkel was already under construction.

On November 4, 1962, Gerhard Backer (born November 21, 1929) became pastor in Harsewinkel and Marienfeld. He obtained the construction of the Christ Church in Marienfeld, which was handed over to the parish on July 5, 1964 by the Landeskirchenrat Bremer. The design of the church comes from Dipl.-Ing. Schmidt and architect Krummkühler. The then politically independent municipality of Marienfeld financed the bell with a value of 3,000 DM , and the Claas company from Harsewinkel donated for the construction of the church. The construction costs of the church amounted to 180,900 DM .
