Gütersloh-Land

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The community of Gütersloh-Land (also Gütersloh, Land ) was a rural community in the district of Wiedenbrück in the Prussian province of Westphalia that existed from 1843 to 1910 .

history

The four former farmers' associations Blankenhagen , Nordhorn , Pavenstädt and Sundern and the village (town since 1825) of Gütersloh formed a joint municipality until 1841. The introduction of the urban code in the city of Gütersloh and the Westphalian rural community code in the Wiedenbrück district led to a separation. The farmers now formed a separate rural community. The Gütersloh office, which was set up at the same time, was spatially and administratively identical to the rural community and was initially administered by the city mayor Haege as bailiff .

The demarcation of the border was controversial for a long time, because the growing city sought to expand its area to the east, which it was initially denied. In 1868, a small, uninhabited part of the community (0.23 km²) was moved to the town of Gütersloh.

While some citizens tried in vain to make the four farmers independent into their own rural communities, the city tried in 1884 to expand its territory again. After long negotiations, the rural community agreed to the incorporation in 1905 and concluded a reorganization contract with the city. This came into force on April 1, 1910, and the 33.6 km² area at that time became part of the municipality.

Population development

The four villages of the municipality had a total of 3777 inhabitants in 1843. This number fluctuated between approx. 2800 and approx. 3900 until 1885. Towards the end of the 19th century, the population grew rapidly, which increased the population to 6771 by 1905.
