Langenbrand is a district of the municipality Forbach in the Rastatt district in Baden-Württemberg . It is located north of the core town between Au im Murgtal and Bermersbach . The mayor is (as of 2013) Roland Gerstner ( SPD ).

Geographical location

Langenbrand is a good two kilometers as the crow flies north of the core town of Forbach in a small basin a little above the east bank of the Murg . The settlement area is on the valley slope between 250  m and 350  m . The place can be reached by car via the B 462 , which runs through the entire Murg Valley and led directly through Langenbrand until 1983. With the Murg Valley Railway there is a light rail connection to Rastatt and Freudenstadt . It is about ten minutes on foot from Langenbrand train station to the town center.

history

Creation and dissolution of the community

Langenbrand local seal throughout history

The settlement of the wild and almost impenetrable Murg Valley south of Gernsbach , the capital of the Eberstein County , probably began in the 13th century AD. The clearing settlement was probably founded by Gernsbach and not by Forbach. The first documented mention can be traced back to the Langenbrande for 1339/40 in the loan book of the bishops of Speyer. A first mention in 1272 is occasionally mentioned, but this has no verifiable source and precedes the first mention of neighboring places by almost 70 years. Nevertheless, the then still independent municipality of Langenbrand celebrated its 700th anniversary in 1972 based on this information. On July 1, 1974, Langenbrand was incorporated into Forbach.

Place name

In Germany, in addition to the Forbach district of Langenbrand, there is another municipality that bears the same name and belongs to Schömberg in the Calw district.

The place name with its final syllable brand is a typical clearing name and indicates a long fire, with the help of which a settlement area was created in the jungle. Different spellings can be found: Langenbrande (1339/40), Langenbrandt (1544, 1579); In a description of the Forbacher Heiligenwald from 1544 the name is written separately.

Village coat of arms

It is assumed that the municipal coat of arms originated from an old forest sign of a former Schulzen (hence the name Schulzenzeichen). In contrast to the Bermersbach coat of arms, in which a single cross stands over a red cuboid, there are two crosses next to the cuboid in Langenbrand's coat of arms. In 1901, at the suggestion of the General State Archives, the municipal council determined the colors of the coat of arms. The two previous Maltese crosses were changed into paw crosses . The background of the coat of arms is silver. The red cuboid is reminiscent of a perforation, i.e. a boundary definition.

Companies

Until the end of the 20th century, paper production played a major role in the local history of Langenbrand. Founded on May 1, 1883, E. Holtzmann & Cie. with the Wolfsheck plant, which was last part of the Stora Enso Group, the largest company in Langenbrand. The aqueduct over the Murg , built by the company in 1885, is the oldest rammed concrete bridge in Germany that has survived .

Founded in 1991 and based in Langenbrand since 2005, Fritz Automation is one of the few companies based here.

Public facilities

In addition to the local sports field, which is located below the B 462 near the Murg, the municipality of Langenbrand also has a festival hall and a gym. After the primary school closed in 2014, the building was converted into the house of the clubs and handed over to this purpose in 2015. The local administration is also housed here.

education

On November 24, 1957, the Langenbrand elementary school and the associated gymnasium were inaugurated. Due to the falling number of pupils, the municipality of Forbach is closing the Langenbrand primary school. The last school enrollments took place in the 2012/13 school year.
