Location of Vehlen (Obernkirchen) in Lower Saxony

Vehlen is a village in the town of Obernkirchen with around 1400 inhabitants in the Schaumburg district ( Lower Saxony ). It is located about four kilometers east of Bückeburg and seven kilometers southwest of Stadthagen .

geography

Vehlen is located on the Bückeburger Aue, which rises in the Süntel and flows into the Weser at Petershagen . In the local area the Bombeeke flows into the floodplain. The federal highway 65 runs directly through the place.

history

In 1055 it was first mentioned in a document as "Velden". Bishop Egilbert von Minden transfers a preliminary work to Duke Bernhard of Saxony as a fief. Vehlen is thus the oldest district of Obernkirchen and is described as lying on the Helweg in front of the Sandforde . The place was a central court of law in the Bukkigau . From 1903 to 1904 a new hall church was built from Obernkirchen sandstone in the early Gothic style. In 1890 a watermill was built that was in operation for 100 years and is now a listed building.

On March 1, 1974, Vehlen was incorporated into the town of Obernkirchen.

The district has been part of the Lower Saxony village renewal program since 2011.

Vehlen owns the home brewery Meierhöfer, the smallest brewery in northern Germany.

Vehlen can be reached via Bückeburger Straße ( B 65 ). The A 2 can be reached quickly via the Bad Eilsen junction. The nearest train stations are in Bückeburg and Kirchhorsten . The public transport is served by the Schaumburger Verkehrs-Gesellschaft with lines 2004 and 2026.

education

There is a kindergarten in town for pre-school education. Primary school students attend the school in Obernkirchen. Secondary schools are located in Obernkirchen, Helpsen, Bückeburg, Stadthagen and Rinteln.

Public facilities

  • The Bückeburg Police Department is responsible for public safety and order. In Obernkirchen there is a police station manned by day duty.
