The Agaplesion Ev. Schaumburg Clinic at the Vehlen site in Obernkirchen was created from the merger of the Rinteln and Stadthagen district hospitals and the Agaplesion Ev. Bethel Bückeburg Hospital . The clinic is responsible for basic medical care in the Schaumburg district , which is located in the area between the Weser Uplands , East Westphalia and the Steinhuder Meer . It has a capacity of 437 beds and belongs to the Agaplesion Group. It is the academic teaching hospital of the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster.
structure
The two district hospitals Stadthagen and Rinteln were included in the Lower Saxony hospital plan 2012 as a plan hospital .
The hospitals were merged with the Bethel Hospital by 2016. The Rinteln hospital was subsequently closed. A joint new building with 435 beds was built on the edge of Obernkirchen south of the village of Vehlen . Due to the bankruptcy of the Imtech company at the end of 2015, the move to the new overall clinic in Vehlen near Obernkirchen was postponed to autumn 2017.
The construction costs for the new clinic in Obernkirchen were initially estimated at 135 million euros and actually amounted to almost 140 million euros. Of which promoted the state of Lower Saxony the new building with 95 million euros.

criticism
In addition to a local citizens' initiative , the Lower Saxony Homeland Association (NHB) also criticized the planning of the new clinic at the Vehlen site. The criticism was directed against the location "On the green meadow", with the consequences of urban sprawl and the associated land consumption . The planning of the new building was mentioned in the Red Map 2011 , the critical annual report of the Lower Saxony Homeland Association on the situation of homeland maintenance and nature conservation to the state government, the handover of which is a central part of the Lower Saxony Day organized annually by the NHB. The answer from the state government and explanations can be found in the white folder .
