Bread Against Not ” is a non-profit foundation based in Düsseldorf . It was launched in May 2000 by Heiner Kamps .

history

Heiner Kamps brought the foundation into being when he had to sell his bakery group Kamps to Barilla AG due to rapid growth and the resulting financial bottlenecks and was forced to resign. While searching for meaning during a motorcycle tour in the United States, he came up with the idea for the foundation. When the foundation was established in 2000, the foundation's capital amounted to 1.6 million euros, half of which came from Kamp's private assets. The foundation has an annual budget of around 100,000 euros (2013). The foundation is fed by donations. Prominent supporters include Boris Becker , Gabriela Sabatini , Til Schweiger , Michael Rummenigge , Thomas Allofs , Mark Keller , Peter Lohmeyer and Sönke Wortmann , who play host at charity events and sacrifice their time or collectibles at auctions. Vitali Klitschko auctioned off his boxing pants, which he wore in the fight against Corrie Sanders , for 50,000 euros.

The aim of the foundation is to help people help themselves. In some areas particularly affected by poverty, especially in developing countries , the foundation is setting up training bakeries for underprivileged young people and young adults living there. In cooperation with local aid organizations and experienced bakers, the young people learn the baker's trade there. The aim is to give the young people a perspective for the future with this training. After a start-up phase, the individual bakeries should secure their own operations and only be dependent on foundation funds when necessary.
