background

In 1919 the company was founded as a commercial agency for iron and household goods by Heinrich Fackelmann and was rebuilt in 1948 by Sebastian Fackelmann. In the course of time, the one-man company became a Germany-wide sales system. In 1958 the company began manufacturing its own products. The company specializing in housewares was expanded to include furniture production in 1963. The bathroom furniture segment was selected here in particular. Since then, Fackelmann has been producing bathroom furniture at the Hersbruck location and has developed into the market leader in the field of DIY and home improvement stores.

Sebastian Fackelmann handed over the operational business to his sons Alexander and Norbert in 1992, but remained at the company's side in an advisory capacity until his death in October 2003. Norbert Fackelmann has since left the company. After the turn of the century, various acquisitions were made: Prestige Italia joined Fackelmann in 2002, and the baking mold manufacturer Zenker ( Aichach ) was integrated a year later . In 2004, companies were opened in Romania and Croatia , and Fabricados Inoxidables was taken over in Spain . In 2005 the British company Probus ( Birmingham ) was taken over and in 2006 production capacities were significantly expanded through a majority stake in the Jensen Group, Shenzhen ( China ). In addition to the German production sites in Hersbruck, Benshausen and Aichach, the Fackelmann company now has production sites in Bussang ( France ) and China. Foreign companies were opened in most European countries as well as in Hong Kong . The sales network now extends to 39 affiliated companies worldwide. Extensions were made in India ( New Delhi ) and Dubai , as well as in Russia, Brazil, Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

Fackelmann's consolidated sales rose from DM 30 million (1985) to EUR 380 million in 2015. The number of employees grew from 240 to around 2,500 worldwide over the same period, including around 670 in Germany. In 2014, two thirds of sales were achieved on the world market. For example, you can find Fackelmann products in many supermarkets in major cities in China .

criticism

In February 2015, the news magazine Der Spiegel reported that Fackelmann was engaging in consumer deception. Products were not made from precious woods - as the company claims - but simply given a “kind of paint” that simulates this. The actual wood comes from "scrap wood from a furniture manufacturer" in China.
