Mzuzu is the capital of the Northern Region of Malawi and with 221,272 inhabitants also the third largest city in the country.

Mzuzu is located 279 km north of the state capital Lilongwe at an altitude of 1,254 m in a saddle of the Viphya Mountains , at the northern end of the Viphya Plateau . The urban area has an extension of 48 km².

population

While the population of the Northern Region grew by 3.3% annually from 1989 to 2008, Mzuzu as the economic center of the Northern Region recorded an average increase of 4% annually, with the proportion of the female population growing at 4.3%, much higher than that the male. Infrastructure
