Coordt von Mannstein (born March 8, 1937 in Flensburg ) is a German communication designer , university professor and entrepreneur.

Career

After attending the Salem Castle Schools (1947–1954), Coordt von Mannstein completed traineeships in the studios of the graphic designers Anton Stankowski and Willi Eidenbenz . From 1958 to 1961 he studied visual communication at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart. As the head of a group for visual communication at Bayer AG , von Mannstein and his team achieved international recognition; the award-winning and published work was shown as a group exhibition in New York, Toronto and Tokyo. The Museum of Modern Art added artistically designed posters to its collection.

In 1965 von Mannstein was a co-founder and managing partner of the Graphicteam design agency in Cologne. During this time he completed his studies at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Werbeakademie, where he later worked as a lecturer.

In 1968 he set up his own business by founding von Mannstein advertising agency and medical innovation in Cologne. In 1974 he became professor for visual communication at the University of Essen , and in 2002 he retired.

In addition to campaigns for branded goods, capital goods and healthcare products, von Mannstein also made a name for himself in the political arena. The electoral campaign specialist “von mannstein political communication” designed and carried out over 60 election campaigns at federal, state and local level. Among other things, he designed seven federal election campaigns for Helmut Kohl between 1976 and 1998 .

In terms of design, the official emblem of the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich is one of the best-known symbols designed by Coordt von Mannstein.

He has also designed various postage stamps for the Federal Republic of Germany.
