Osttangente (Flensburg)

The Osttangente Flensburg is a bypass road in the east of the city. It extends from the south of Flensburg to roughly Mürwik .
It is located outside of Flensburg city center , but after many years of planning, new, larger and steadily growing districts have been created on both sides, so that the city center is relieved by bypassing it.
history
The idea to build the four-lane expressway arose in the early 1950s. The planning took shape in the 1970s. In 1991 it was finally decided to build the road. The project was divided into three sections. In 1991/1992 the section in the south of the city from Bundesstraße 200 to Eckernförde Landstraße was built. In 2001 the section to Adelbylund was opened. The last section up to the north road at Engelsby , which was the most controversial, was started next. As recently as 2005, the Lautrupsbachtal citizens' initiative demanded an alternative route across the Vogelsang , which would have meant an even greater destruction of natural areas and which would have connected fewer parts of the city. The last section was completed in 2006. At the same time, Nordstraße was extended to four lanes up to Schottweg, the adjoining street in Mürwik (cf. Wasserloos ), so that Wees and Glücksburg also benefit from this connection .
