Adelby describes firstly an old parish east of Flensburg , secondly the eponymous main town of this parish, which disappeared early, and thirdly a community that existed from 1970 to 1979, which was formed by the merger of the communities of Tarup , Sünderup and Tastrup and only extended from 1974 to 1979 the place Tastrup and fourth, nowadays, a part of the city of Flensburg, which belongs to the district of Tarup.

history

The parish

The parish of the Johanniskirche was part of the Husbyharde , an administrative unit of the fishing area . Due to resettlements, the villages of Adelbylund , Fruerlund (hof) , Tarup and Twedt were created around Adelby . Around 1100 another evacuation from the village of Adelby resulted in the settlement of Sankt Johannis at the end of the Flensburg Fjord , which resulted in Flensburg , which is independent of Adelby. The new settlements around Adelby grew and the old settlement got smaller until only the church and some fields remained. Significantly, the name Adelby means something like "mother village", "main village" or "old village". The name Adelby has only been documented since 1423. Nevertheless, the surrounding new settlements continued to use the Adelby Church, built around 1080, and so the parish grew. The parish of Adelby included the places Klein and Groß Adelbylund, Fruerlund (hof) and Fruerlundholz , Twedter Holz , Mürwik , Wasserloos , Kauslund , Blocksberg , Engelsby , Twedt , Jürgensby , Klein and Groß Tarup with Kreuz, Sünderup and Tastrup .

The St. John's Church in Adelby is one of the oldest churches in the region. In the 18th century, the smaller choir was demolished and rebuilt in bricks at the same height as the nave, so that the church structure appears to be unstructured today. The baroque tower was built at the same time.

Over time, the city of Flensburg grew along the east bank and places such as Mürwik from the Adelby parish were gradually incorporated. In addition, new churches such as the Christ Church were built in the new districts , so that both the area of responsibility of the parish of Adelby and the parish of Adelby were reduced.

Adelby remained in various parishes from 1872 onwards

In 1872 the rural parish of Adelby and the rural parish of Tarup merged to form the new parish of Tarup. In an area swap in 1966 and 1967, an area with 78 inhabitants was transferred from Sünderup to Tarup. In addition, the area of the Adelby Church with 30 residents was transferred to Sünderup. On January 1, 1970, the parishes of Tarup and Sünderup merged to form the parish of Adelby. The Adelbylund belonging to Sünderup, where the municipal administration was located, was ceded to the city of Flensburg on April 26, 1970. On February 15, 1970 Tastrup was incorporated into the municipality of Adelby. On March 24, 1974 Tarup and Sünderup were reclassified to Flensburg. Tastrup remained independent and continued to operate as the municipality of Adelby. On January 1, 1980, the name of the municipality Adelby was officially changed to Tastrup .

The Adelby area these days

Today there are two schools next to the church and the cemetery . On the one hand the Kurt-Tucholsky-Schule (formerly: Cooperative Comprehensive School Flensburg-Adelby ) and the primary school Adelby . The earlier strawberry fields that you could pick yourself across from the Cooperative Comprehensive School Flensburg-Adelby gave way to the newly built east bypass at the beginning of the 21st century . In addition to the Adelby Primary School, there is also the Adelby v. 1950 eV Otherwise, the area of Adelby is shown separately in the original area on newer city maps and Adelby is no longer used as a synonym with Tarup and the other former villages. The city itself does not use the name in the area of the city districts and district division. And today's Evangelical Lutheran parish of Adelby now only includes the southeastern area of the city, namely Tarup, Adelbylund, Sünderup and the new district of Hochfeld as well as the rural community of Tastrup in the Schleswig-Flensburg district . With the constant expansion of the Sünderup Flensburg district, it is growing more and more clearly towards Tastrup, the last remainder of the Adelby community, which has not yet been incorporated. The cemetery, which was expanded again and again in the 20th century, is still the only cemetery in the east of the city of Flensburg, which means that the church continues to be of importance for many Mürwikers, Engelsbyers and the other citizens of the former parts of Adelby. The area has changed significantly due to the newly built eastern bypass mentioned . The western Adelby area with some agriculture, where some cows graze, was basically cut off from the rest of the eastern part, even if two pedestrian bridges over the eastern bypass and a pedestrian tunnel are supposed to alleviate the damage. It will only become clear in the future whether a higher population of trees and vegetation will reduce this apparent visual impression. In addition, the city has added the area to the Adelbylund district on its maps. Adelby was connected to the bus network for the first time in 2013 by ring line 5. Before that, many KTS pupils had to get on bus stops on lines 10 or 11 in Engelsby for years. Special buses are also used for schoolchildren from the countryside. Furthermore, the area has been accessible via the hiking trail through the Lautrupsbachtal since the east bypass was built . The Lautrupsbach arises from the confluence of Adelbybek and Taerbek in the cemetery south of the Kurt Tucholsky School. Furthermore, a youth center and the triangular area with recreational opportunities were built. In 2014 a day nursery was set up by the Danks Skoleforening for Sydslewig eV on the edge of the Adelby area, at Ringstrasse 2. Opposite the cemetery, in Richard-Wagner-Str. 60, Sven Höch's small business sells gravestones and other stone carvings .

Fields and nature of Adelby

Adelby is still part of a green corridor that extends from the Flensburg harbor , over the Lautrupsbachtal , Adelby, Vogelsang , Blocksberg and Tremmeruper Wald to Glücksburg Castle .

Artificial barrow in Adelby

In the small area of today's Adelby there are only a few streets and paths. They are:

  • Adelbyer Kirchenweg: In the past, the path was one of the main routes to the church. The street begins at the Bismarckstraße at the Palast-Theater and runs to the southeast. It crosses Glücksburger Straße and continues towards Adelby. The Trögelsbyer Weg meets them shortly before the Osttangente. Also in this area, the Lustgarten field path, which comes from the Holländerhof, meets the Kirchenweg and ends there. Nowadays the Adelbyerkirchenweg also divides at the Osttangente. The part for the cars was branched off with the construction of the Osttangente and now continues to the Osttangente. The part for the pedestrians continues the historical course of the route. The path ends over a bridge at the Adelby Church of St. Johannis.
  • Adelbyer Strasse: Adelbyer Strasse has long been one of the main routes to Adelby. It now ends at Holländerhof, where it used to continue eastwards, where nowadays there is only a dirt road that meets and ends just before the pedestrian bridge on Adelbyer Kirchweg.
  • Adelbylund Street: It comes from Adelbylund and ends in Adelby at the lower end of Richard-Wagner-Straße
  • Richard-Wagner-Straße: The road begins in Engelsby and continues south. The Adelby area begins approximately where it is crossed by Trögelsbyer Weg. The KTS and the church with the cemetery are located on the eastern side of Richard-Wagner-Straße.
  • East bypass: The eastern bypass road built by Adelby in 2006. It runs parallel to Richard-Wagner-Straße.
  • Ring Road: The Ring Road is at the bottom of the Adelby area. It basically continues Richard-Wagner-Strasse. This area, which already partially belongs to the Löwenberg area, is the Adelby elementary school, the currently built day nursery and the Adelby v. Sports club. 1950 e. V.
  • "Silent love (east)": The popularly named path bears the addition east in brackets, as there is still the "silent love (west)" path in the west of the city. In addition, there is another path with this name in Tastrup, which will probably be named "Stille Liebe (south)" after it has been incorporated. The “Stille Liebe (east)” path runs between the KGS and the cemetery and ends in the upper area of Tarup, where you can continue to Vogelsang via secret paths.
  • Tarup main street: The Tarup main street comes from Tarup and ends at the ring road in Adelby.

  21. It is not included in Jakob Röschmann's comprehensive list (cf. Jakob Röschmann: Prehistory of the Flensburg District . The Prehistoric and Early Historical Monuments and Finds in Schleswig-Holstein, Volume 6. Neumünster 1963). It is not entirely clear when the apparently romanticized megalithic tomb was created. Often, barrows are linked to legends of giants. A legend of a megalithic grave in the Flensburg area claims, for example, that a giant there emptied his wooden shoe from the sand, creating a large mound (see Gundula Hubrich-Messow: Sagen und Märchen aus Flensburg, Husum 1992, page 30). The artificial barrow, which is clearly visible on a hill, is probably supposed to tie in with such romantic impressions and stories. It is on the outskirts of the Kurt Tucholsky School and was therefore probably created for the students when the Cooperative Comprehensive School Flensburg-Adelby was built.
