Fruerlundholz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fruerlundholz (rarely also: Fruerlundwald ; Danish : Fruerlundskov ) is an urban area in the Fruerlund district of Flensburg . The old buildings of Fruerlundholz are among the cultural monuments of the Fruerlund district.

location

Fruerlundholz is located east of the Blasberg district and south of Klosterholz and St. Ansgar . It can be reached from Flensburg harbor via Ziegeleistraße in connection with Mürwiker Straße . Fruerlundholz today consists of the street areas Fruerlundholz ( location ) and the street areas surrounding there. Fruerlundholz is assigned to the district of Fruerlundhof .

history

The name meaning of Fruerlundholz is "forest" or " wood of Fruerlund ". Fruerlundholz was first mentioned in 1720 as "Fruerlund wood". Further documents come from 1727, as "Fruerlundter Holzung", 1774 and 1798. At first, Fruerlundholz existed as a small fishing village . At a distance from the village was the Fruerlund or Fruerlundholzer brickworks. In 1825 there were 13 residents in Fruerlundholz. At the beginning of the 20th century, the village of Fruerlundholz apparently consisted of about ten poor building complexes, mainly Katen. During this time, the Imperial Navy settled in Mürwik, and over the next few decades the Flensburg-Mürwik base and the surrounding buildings gradually grew . In addition to Alt-Fruerlundhof , Fruerlundholz should also develop into a nucleus of the growing Fruerlund district in the new century. Between 1902 and 1910, the neighboring northern Fruerlunder Strasse was apparently built on with multi-storey houses. (This street area of Fruerlunder Strasse is now officially part of the Mürwik district.)

After the Second World War , the city population of Flensburg increased considerably due to the influx of refugees. As a result, a lot of new living space was created in Fruerlund. At the end of the 1950s, the city of Flensburg and the self-help building association pushed ahead with the development of the Fruerlundholz area. In 1957 the village street was officially renamed from Fruerlundholz to "Fruerlundholz". By the way, only remnants of the old street village of Fruerlundholz have survived to this day, in contrast to the neighboring Fruerlunder Straße, where the old buildings from the beginning of the 20th century have largely been preserved. Several streets in the urban area have been given river names as street names since the late 1950s, for example: Eiderstraße (named 1957), Elbestraße (named 1976), Schleibogen (named 1963), Travestraße (named 1957), Weserstraße (named 1978) . In the early 1960s, numerous trees were planted in the open spaces and the roadside areas when the area was developed. No attention was paid to where the sewer pipes were. In the period that followed, the roots of the trees directly above the pipes caused great damage to the sewer system. The planning errors led to extensive tree felling in 2017 and the subsequent rehabilitation of the pipeline system in the city area.

Special buildings

(Cited roughly in the order in which they were created.)

  • Fruerlundholz 4: A house that dates from around the second third of the 19th century. A stable extension was added later on the eastern narrow side. The street originally ran past the north side of the house. The entrance to the house is there.
  • Fruerlundholz 13-15: Simple, elongated semi-detached house, consisting of the numbers 13 and 15, the core of which probably dates from the second half of the 19th century. Number 15 was later extended.
  • Fruerlundholz 18 : The Methodist Church is located there today (see list of churches in Flensburg ).
  • Fruerlunder Straße 66 to 78 : The houses there from the beginning of the 20th century officially belong to the Mürwik district. There is a penny market at the end of the street these days . In the place of the supermarket parking lot ( location ), the Gasthaus Sommerlust has stood since the imperial era , which initially offered its guests an unobstructed, wonderful view of the Flensburg Fjord . In the 1980s the building was demolished. Nowadays the Hinkelstein restaurant is located at Fruerlunder Strasse 70, a popular restaurant in the Fördestadt that has existed for several decades.
  • Fichtestrasse 2 : The Fichtestrasse itself was officially named in 1927. The Mürwik-Fruerlund police station is housed in a small high-rise building on the outskirts of Mürwik near Fruerlundholz. (Since when is not generally known.) In front of the building is a Pan sculpture by Fritz During from 1971. The police officers are not only on duty in the two districts of Mürwik and Fruerlund, but apparently also in the neighboring rural areas from time to time Fishing . Until the end of 2015, the Mürwik-Fruerlund police station was also the office of Police Commissioner Bernhard Stitz, who became known as the "avenger of the tricked". In the 1980s, Stitz began in his spare time to check coffee trips with regard to their seriousness and legality, in order to report the organizer to the public order office or the police if necessary. The police commissioner a. D. classifies one hundred percent of coffee trips as dubious and ninety-five percent as illegal.
  • Travestraße 1-7 : The “Fruerlundholzer Zentrum” is located at the beginning of Travestraße . In the optically clearly recognizable area of the square, without an official name, there are a few small shops for local supplies and a restaurant. (Incidentally, there was also a small supermarket there for a long time .) Furthermore, there is a small fountain and a bookcase in this central area (see there ). The bus stop is called "Fruerlundholz". The area was extensively renovated in 2013.
  • Travestraße 28 : In 2017 the old high-rise Travestraße 28 was demolished and then replaced by a new building. The chairman of the board of the self-help building association , Willi Sander, discovered district heating in Denmark after the war . He had a heating center set up next to the high-rise building, from which the surrounding apartments of the self-help building association were supplied. The Flensburger Stadtwerke took this pioneering act as a model and also set up a district heating network, which became a model for German cities. The Fruerlunder district heating network soon became part of the Flensburg district heating network of the municipal utilities. The thermal power station in Travestrasse was shut down. The old skyscraper, which has now been demolished, recently offered refugees accommodation; See refugee crisis in Germany from 2015 .
  • Elbestraße 10 : Fördegymnasium Flensburg and Elbestraße 20 : Fridtjof-Nansen-Schule
