The Fridtjof-Nansen-Schule Flensburg is a community school with upper secondary school in Flensburg . It has been named after the polar explorer Fridtjof Wedel-Jarlsberg Nansen since 2009 .

history

The Fridtjof Nansen School took over the school buildings of the former Flensburg Ost secondary school, which were originally built for the Flensburg high school . It was founded as an integrated comprehensive school under the direction of Jochen Arlt, who retired in 2011. His successor was Dirk Loßack, who has been State Secretary for Britta Ernst (Minister for Schools and Vocational Training of the State of Schleswig-Holstein) since June 12, 2012 . He was followed in August 2013 by Christian Matthaei, who left school after a year. Fabian Halbe took over the office in 2014.

Location map

After the school reform in 2009 by the Schleswig-Holstein state government, it was necessary to convert the Integrated Comprehensive School Flensburg (IGS Flensburg) into a community school . In addition to numerous personnel changes, a name change followed. At the turn of the year 2009/2010, the school conference decided to rename it to Fridtjof Nansen School. In parlance, "IGS" is still the more common title.

Educational concept

Elective courses

In grade 7, all students choose a four-hour “Elective Subject I”, which is retained until graduation in 9 or 10. You can choose between two foreign languages, Danish and French, the subject “Technology” and “Design”. In grades 9 and 10, the pupils choose a two-hour “Elective Subject II” for the duration of a school year. Here you can choose between a wide variety of topics, such as media, computer science, housekeeping, science, sports, technology and history.

Project weeks

Three times during the school year, the subject lessons are suspended for one week each time, so that they can work on thematically related projects. The level coordinators formulate their own guiding theme for each year. With increasing age, the young people are involved in defining the topic for the year. The formulation of your own research question, the formation of the working group, the preparation of a work and time plan for the necessary research and the mandatory presentation of the work results are the elements to be trained again and again.

Theater and performing arts

Theater and performing , a trademark of the Fridtjof Nansen School, is planned and carried out from the 5th school year up to the upper secondary school level. Several stage works of the theater course staged under the direction of Beate Thede were honored by the Pogge van Ranken Foundation at the school theater competitions at the Flensburg Theater School .
