Britta Ernst (* 23 February 1961 in Hamburg ) is a German politician of the SPD . From 1997 to 2011 she was a member of the Hamburg Parliament and from 2014 to 2017 Minister for Schools and Vocational Education in Schleswig-Holstein . Britta Ernst has been Brandenburg's Minister for Education, Youth and Sport in the cabinets Woidke II (2014-2019) and Woidke III (since 2019) since September 28, 2017 .

Britta Ernst completed after the graduate a professional training to the clerk of the property and housing industry . Then she took a degree in social economics .

In addition to her work, she is a member of the activating state working group of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and of the ver.di union .

She has been married to the SPD politician Olaf Scholz since 1998 . The married couple Scholz / Ernst live childless in Potsdam and Hamburg-Altona.

Britta Ernst has been an active member of the SPD since 1978, from 1991 to 1993 as a member of the Altona district assembly .

In 1993 she was Senator Traute Müller's personal advisor . From 1994 to 1997 she was Senator Thomas Mirow's personal advisor .

Britta Ernst was a member of Hamburg's citizenship from October 8, 1997 to August 31, 2011. She represented the SPD in the school committee, science committee and the special committee “Neglected Children”. She was also a member of the “School Development” commission of inquiry . From 2001 to 2006 she was deputy parliamentary group leader of the SPD citizenship group and spokesperson for school policy. Her political priorities are school and education policy as well as equality between women and men. From 2006 to the beginning of 2011 Ernst was the parliamentary director of her group.

In February 2008, she moved to the state election on the constituency Altona again as deputies to the Hamburg Parliament. During this term of office, Ernst was the SPD's specialist spokesperson for the constitution. In addition, she continued to serve on the school committee and, now, on the constitution and district committee.

In September 2009 she was invited by Ralf Stegner to the “Schleswig-Holstein Future Team ” for the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein .

In the 2011 election she came back to the state parliament as a member of the Hamburg parliament via the SPD state list position 7 . Her husband, Olaf Scholz, also won a mandate for the 20th parliamentary term. He was elected First Mayor .

On August 31, 2011, she resigned from the citizenry to work as deputy parliamentary group manager for the SPD parliamentary group. On September 16, 2014 she was appointed Minister for Schools and Vocational Education in Schleswig-Holstein . This ended her leave of absence as a scientific employee of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. After the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein in 2017 , there was a change of government (→ Günther's cabinet ) and Ernst was not reappointed minister.

She has been Minister of Education in Brandenburg since September 2017.
