Konrad Wolf (born January 4, 1962 in Sünching ) is a German physicist , professor and politician ( SPD ) and since May 18, 2016 Minister for Science, Further Education and Culture in the Dreyer II cabinet in Rhineland-Palatinate .

life and career

Scientific career

Wolf studied physics at the University of Regensburg from 1984 to 1990 , where he then received his doctorate at the Institute for Experimental Physics until 1994. The following year he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics , followed by positions at the Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems (1995 to 1997) and from 1998 in the semiconductor division of the Siemens group, which was spun off under the name Infineon in 1999 has been. In an annual ranking to evaluate the work of all German science and research ministers in the federal and state levels, the members of the German University Association (DHV) voted Konrad Wolf 2019 as the worst science minister of the year. More than 3,600 members of the DHV took part in the vote, including university teachers and young scientists.

Konrad Wolf has been chairman of the Joint Science Conference since July 2019 . In the GWK, the federal and state governments take turns in the chairmanship every year; Konrad Wolf has already been re-elected chairman for the year 2021.
