Christian Piwarz (born July 23, 1975 in Dresden ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and former state chairman of the Young Union of Saxony and Lower Silesia. He has been a member of the Saxon State Parliament since 2006 and the Saxon State Minister for Culture in the Kretschmer I and Kretschmer II cabinets since December 18, 2017 .

Life

After graduating from high school at Joseph-Haydn-Gymnasium in Dresden- Striesen, Christian Piwarz did his military service in Bad Frankenhausen and Dresden from 1994 to 1995 and studied law at the TU Dresden from 1995 to 2001 . In June 2001 he passed the first state examination and, after his legal clerkship, in December 2003 the second state examination. From 2004 to 2005 and again since 2006 he has been working as a freelance lawyer in a Dresden law firm and from 2005 to 2006 was a consultant at the Saxon State Chancellery.

Christian Piwarz has been a member of the Saxon state parliament since 2006 as the successor to the retired Uwe Albrecht . During the 4th electoral term (from his entry until 2009) he was active in the Interior Committee, the Committee for School and Sport and the 1st Committee of Inquiry into Sachsen-LB .

Piwarz was chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the 2nd committee of inquiry of the 4th electoral term of the Saxon state parliament "Investigation of the responsibility of members of the state government for any serious deficiencies in the detection and prosecution of criminal and corrupt networks with the participation of representatives from politics and business, judges , Public prosecutors and other employees of the Saxon judiciary, police, state and local authorities as well as for the failure of constitutional information, control and preventive mechanisms in Saxony (criminal and corrupt networks in Saxony) ”.

In the 2009 state elections , Piwarz returned to the state parliament through a direct mandate in the Dresden 6 constituency . In the 5th electoral term he was 1st deputy parliamentary group chairman and parliamentary managing director of the CDU state parliament group as well as a member of the committee for rules of procedure and immunity matters, in the election review committee and from April 2012 to 2014 one of 19 members of the Saxon NSU investigation committee "Neo-Nazi Terror Networks in Saxony" .

In the state elections in Saxony in 2014 , Piwarz again won the direct mandate in his constituency (now Dresden 2 after a constituency reform ). The CDU parliamentary group reelected him as 1st deputy parliamentary group chairman and parliamentary manager.

He was a member of the 14th and 15th Federal Assemblies for the election of the Federal President.

Piwarz has been President of the American Football Association of Saxony (AFVS) since 2005 and was also press spokesman for the American Football Association of Germany (AFVD).

In the refugee crisis in Europe from 2015 onwards , he and other CDU politicians criticized Chancellor Angela Merkel's course .

On December 18, 2017, the Saxon Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer appointed him to his cabinet as Minister of State for Culture.

In the state election in Saxony in 2019 on September 1, 2019, Piwarz again won the direct mandate in his constituency of Dresden 2 .
