Friedbert Gross

Friedbert Groß (born April 20, 1937 in Medingen ) is a German music teacher , composer and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Groß attended the Kreuzschule in Dresden and was a singer in the Dresden Kreuzchor in his youth . After graduating from high school in 1955, he began studying composition, composition, choral conducting and piano at the Dresden University of Music , which he completed in 1960 with the state examination. He initially worked as a composition lecturer at the Zentralhaus für Kulturarbeit in Leipzig , then switched to the University of Physical Culture as a teacher of musical education and rhythm in 1962 and was head of the department for choreography there in 1989/90. In addition to his professional activity, he composed around 60 choral and instrumental works. From 2004 to 2008 he was a member of the ZDF television council .

Friedbert Groß is married and has one daughter.

politics

Groß joined the Eastern CDU in 1984 and was a member of the Standing Commission on Culture of the Leipzig District Council from 1985 to 1990 . After the political change in the GDR he became a member of the CDU and in 1990 was elected chairman of the CDU local branch in Leipzig-Mitte. From 1990 to 1999 he was a member of the Saxon state parliament , where he was the cultural and media policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group from 1990 to 1993 and deputy chairman of the committee for science, universities, culture and media from 1994 to 1999. After Stefanie Rehm's resignation , he was appointed Minister of State for Culture in the government of the Free State of Saxony led by Prime Minister Kurt Biedenkopf on March 2, 1993 . On October 6, 1994 he was replaced in this position by Matthias Rößler .

On May 26, 1999, Erich Iltgen, President of the State Parliament, awarded him the Saxon Constitutional Medal.
