Walther Schieck

Karl Alfred Walther Schieck (born August 24, 1874 in Dresden ; † April 23, 1946 there ) was a German politician ( DVP ) and the last democratically elected Prime Minister of Saxony before 1945.

Life

After studying law in Heidelberg , Munich and Leipzig , Schieck worked in the Saxon Ministry of Finance from 1906. Since January 1, 1923, Schieck was President of the Saxon State Audit Office. Schieck was a member of the DVP and was elected Prime Minister of Saxony on May 6, 1930 . He headed a cabinet of mostly non-party ministers. As Prime Minister, he also held the office of Minister of Education.

After a motion of censure by the SPD, KPD and NSDAP, Schieck resigned from office on May 13, 1930, but was in charge of government affairs until his resignation on March 10, 1933. During this time, he resided in Villa Schieck named, now a listed building, of his family.

In 1920 Schieck was accepted into the Masonic lodge to the three swords and Astraea to the green diamond in Dresden.

He found his final resting place in the Johannisfriedhof in Dresden.
