Uwe Albrecht (born July 19, 1957 in Leipzig ) is a German politician ( CDU ).

Life

Albrecht learned to be a car mechanic before starting to study automotive engineering in 1979. After graduating in 1982, he completed a distance learning course at the TU Dresden , which he completed in 1989. At the same time, Albrecht had been working in Kraftverkehr Leipzig since 1978, where he held the position of department head, among other things. Uwe Albrecht is married and has two children.

Albrecht has been a member of the CDU since 1979 and was a city ​​councilor in Leipzig from 1994 to 1996 . Since 2003 he has been a member of the state board of the Saxon Union and was treasurer of the CDU Leipzig until 2006. In April 2006, he renounced the election of district chairman of the CDU Leipzig, for which he was criticized within the party.

From 1990 to 2006 he was a member of the Saxon State Parliament , where he represented the constituency of Leipzig 6 . Among other things, Albrecht was a member of the Interior Committee and the Committee for Construction and Transport. Uwe Albrecht became known to many Leipzig residents during the fall of the Berlin Wall when he was chairman of the commission of inquiry into cases of abuse of office, corruption and personal enrichment in Leipzig-Nord.

In 2006 Uwe Albrecht was the joint candidate of the bourgeois parties (CDU and FDP ) for the mayoral election in Leipzig. In the runoff election on February 26, 2006, he was defeated by the SPD candidate Burkhard Jung (51.6%) with 44.0% of the vote .

In June 2006 he announced his candidacy for the City of Leipzig's Economics Councilor. On July 19, the city council elected him mayor and deputy for economy and labor. With that he left the Saxon state parliament, Christian Piwarz replaced him in the state parliament.
