Barbara Klepsch (born July 23, 1965 in Annaberg-Buchholz ) is a German politician ( CDU ). She has been the Saxon State Minister for Culture and Tourism since December 20, 2019 and was previously the Saxon State Minister for Social Affairs and Consumer Protection since November 13, 2014 . Kleptsch was also Lord Mayor of Annaberg-Buchholz from 2001 to 2014.

Life

The administrative business economist (VWA) Barbara Klepsch was from 1988 to 1993 head of finances at the Annaberg district hospital. She then worked as treasurer of the Erzgebirge mountain and district town of Annaberg-Buchholz . In the Mayor election in Annaberg-Buchholz on June 24, 2001, she was elected successor to Klaus Hermann with a turnout of 44.9% and 51.4% of the votes . On June 8, 2008, she was re-elected with a voter turnout of 43.3% with 98.5% of the vote. She is a member of the district council of the Erzgebirgskreis . Klepsch has been a member of the Main Committee of the German Association of Cities since 2001 and a member of the Committee for Social Affairs, Education and Culture of the Saxon Association of Cities and Towns since 2008.

Klepsch has been a member of the board of the CDU Saxony since 2005 . On November 9, 2013, she was elected deputy chairwoman at the party congress of the Saxon CDU. She succeeded Steffen Flath in this position . She was confirmed in this office on November 14, 2015.

On 13 November 2014, it was Prime Minister Stanislaw Tillich to the Minister for Social Affairs and Consumer Protection in the Saxony government in place of Christine Clauss appointed.

In the state elections in Saxony in 2019 , she was elected constituency member in the Dresden 7 constituency with 25.3 percent of the direct votes.

In the Kretschmer II cabinet she became Saxon State Minister for Culture and Tourism on December 20, 2019 .

Honors

For her services to the town twinning between Weiden in the Upper Palatinate and Annaberg-Buchholz, she was awarded honorary citizenship of Weiden in June 2015 as part of the citizens' festival .
