Wolfgang Hackel (born November 27, 1942 in Oberliebich , Sudetenland ) is a German economist , entrepreneur and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Wolfgang Hackel is the son of a druggist. After graduating from high school in 1963, he began studying political science and economics at the Free University of Berlin , which he completed in 1969 with an examination as a political scientist. Since then he has been a member of KAV Suevia Berlin . From 1969 to 1972 he worked as a research assistant, completed additional studies at the Free University of Berlin in 1972/73 and then received a postgraduate scholarship. From 1976 to 1978 he worked as a journalist. In 1978 he received his doctorate from the Free University of Berlin to Dr. rer. pole. (Dissertation thesis: The selection of young political talents in the Federal Republic of Germany - The Young Union as a springboard for political careers in the CDU ).

From 1974 to 1978, Hackel was the managing director of the association “Medium-sized Enterprises” and in 1978 he became a managing partner of Versorgungs- und Betreuungs GmbH and owner of VBG curamus KG in Berlin . In the 1980s, he was temporarily managing partner of Host Schmidt GmbH in Berlin.

Wolfgang Hackel is married and has a son and a daughter.

Hackel joined the CDU in 1966, at the same time joined the Junge Union (JU) and was press spokesman for the CDU Berlin from 1969 to 1971 as well as an academic advisor at the JU Federal Association. From 1972 to 1976 he was a member of the CDU district board of Berlin-Neukölln and from 1974 to 1976 managing director of the Ring Politischer Jugend . In 1975 he was elected to the Berlin House of Representatives and in 1978/79 he was city councilor for youth and sport in the Neukölln district . In the Bundestag election in 1980 he was elected to the German Bundestag , to which he belonged as a West Berlin member until his resignation on December 1, 1985. From 1985 to 1989 he was a member of the European Parliament . From 1990 to 1994 he was the deputy for economy and finance in the district office in Potsdam .

Hackel was chairman of the CDU district association Potsdam-Mittelmark in the 1990s and was elected to the state board of the CDU Brandenburg. He was a member of the Brandenburg State Parliament from 1994 to 2004 , where he was chairman of the budget and finance committee from 1994 to 1999. From April to September 1997 he was first deputy chairman and then from September 1997 to September 1999 chairman of the CDU parliamentary group.

Hackel was appointed Minister for Science, Research and Culture on October 13, 1999 to the government of the State of Brandenburg led by Prime Minister Manfred Stolpe . Due to disputes about his secondary employment, he wrote to the Prime Minister on October 5, 2000 asking for his release. On October 17, 2000, he finally resigned from his ministerial office and was replaced in this position by Johanna Wanka . Today (2008) he is still honorary chairman of the CDU district association Potsdam-Mittelmark.
