Angelika Peter (née Löwe, born June 29, 1945 in Pritzwalk ) is a German educator and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1964 at the children's and youth sports school in Frankfurt (Oder) , Peter completed a teaching degree in history and sports at the Humboldt University in Berlin . In 1968 she started teaching at the 11th Polytechnic Oberschule in Frankfurt (Oder) as a teacher for history and sports. In 1991 she took over the school management there.

Angelika Peter is married to Manfred Peter. She has a son and a daughter.

politics

After the political change in the GDR , Peter joined the SPD in January 1990. She was elected city ​​councilor in Frankfurt (Oder) in May 1990 and shortly thereafter as city councilor. After Margrit Spielmann's health-related waiver, she officiated from October 11, 1994 to October 13, 1999 as Minister for Education, Youth and Sport in the government of the State of Brandenburg led by Prime Minister Manfred Stolpe . During her tenure, the school subject LER (Lifestyle - Ethics - Religion) was introduced, which replaced denominational religious instruction at the beginning of the 1996/97 school year.
