Holger Rupprecht (born January 19, 1953 in Gadebusch , Schwerin district ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 2004 to 2011 he was Minister for Education, Youth and Sport for the State of Brandenburg . Between 2009 and 2019 he was a member of the Brandenburg state parliament .

Life

From 1959 to 1967 Rupprecht attended the Polytechnische Oberschule (POS) Gadebusch and from 1967 to 1971 the local extended high school (EOS), where he passed the Abitur in 1971 . From 1971 to 1975 he studied sports science and geography at the Pädagogische Hochschule Potsdam and received his degree as a teacher in 1975 . He was first a subject teacher at the POS in Dömitz (1975–1977) and later at POS 29 in Potsdam , where he was appointed deputy director in 1990. In 1991 he became the acting director of the Humboldt-Gymnasium Potsdam and finally held this position full-time from 1993 to 2004.

Holger Rupprecht is married and has two children; his son Björn Rupprecht was a handball player. From 1996 to 2014 he was president of the handball club 1. VfL Potsdam .

politics

On October 13, 2004, the then non-party Rupprecht was appointed as the successor to Steffen Reiche (SPD) as Minister for Education, Youth and Sport of the State of Brandenburg in the Platzeck II cabinet. In May 2005 he became a member of the SPD. In the state elections in 2009 , Rupprecht was able to move into the state parliament for the first time via the direct mandate in the Prignitz I constituency , which he repeated in 2014 . In the coalition government of the SPD and Die Linke led by Prime Minister Matthias Platzeck , he was confirmed in office as Minister for Education, Youth and Sport ( Platzeck III cabinet ) in November 2009 , before resigning in January 2011 due to a company car affair.
After resigning as minister, he was a member of the state parliament's committee for European affairs and development policy from April 2011 to October 2014 and a member of the interior committee from January 2012 to October 2014. Since December 2014 he has been a member of the Committee on European Affairs, Development Policy and Consumer Protection.

Investigations on suspicion of taking advantage

On January 27, 2011, Rupprecht resigned from his position as Minister for Education, Youth and Sport because he was only able to end a public prosecutor's investigation into taking advantage of the benefits by paying a fine . The rbb politics magazine KLARTEXT revealed on January 19, 2011 that Rupprecht "as a minister had procured an all-wheel drive BMW that was supposed to be around 100,000 euros as a test car for a two-week ski holiday" without paying for it. According to the state's company car regulations , Rupprecht would not have allowed the expensive car. In addition, the prescribed official channel for vehicle procurement should not have been complied with. The minister announced an additional payment of the costs incurred.
