The Humboldt-Gymnasium Potsdam is a grammar school in Potsdam and winner of the German School Prize 2016. The school was founded in 1822 as the “Royal Crafts School”, then often changed the school form and finally in 1991 became the Humboldt-Gymnasium Potsdam.
profile
The school relies on a broad profile without early specialization. The school climate should promote personality development and positive performance. The focus is on individual support, for example in the form of learning advice talks and revolving door models .
The school pursues the motto "strengthen strengths and weaken weaknesses".
history
In 1822 the "Royal Craft School" was opened in what was then the Civil Orphanage as a forerunner of the school . As the school grew rapidly, in 1853 it was given its own building at Am Kanal 62 as the “Royal Provincial Trade School ”.
The school was converted to an upper secondary school in 1882. The school retained this title, apart from being downgraded to a secondary school , until 1937. Then it became the "1st municipal secondary school for boys" and, after the war, ultimately the "secondary school".
The school was named "Humboldt School" in 1947.
In 1954 the school moved into its current building (Haus Marie) and in 1959 the Humboldt School became EOS 1.
After German reunification , the school was expanded to include two new buildings: the Alexander house (1998) and the Wilhelm house (2015/16). The renovation of the Marie house was completed in 2016/17.

The school consists of three buildings:
