The Fördegymnasium Flensburg (originally: Neues Gymnasium ) is located in the Fruerlund district of the independent city of Flensburg . In the building complex there is still the Max-von-der-Grün school and the evening grammar school of the city of Flensburg. The students come mainly from Mürwik , Fruerlund , Engelsby , Wees , Glücksburg (Baltic Sea) and various rural elementary schools. The grammar school is a member and model school in the Trans-JOB project of the German Business Foundation and the Federal Ministry for Education and Research . In addition, the secondary school was a pilot school as part of the SEMIK project , in which trainee teachers tried out new teaching concepts together with the teaching staff.

timeline

Beginnings and first building

The Fördegymnasium began as a new grammar school , initially with only six classes, on April 6, 1961 with its first school year, in the premises of the Goethe School . Shortly afterwards, on April 24, 1962, the company moved into the new premises on Tilsiter Strasse (today the Fridtjof-Nansen-Schule Flensburg is located there ). In 1966 the school was named Fördegymnasium . In 1969, smoking was allowed for students over the age of 16, but only in a certain smoking area. Upon request, the study level project was introduced in 1971 . In 1972 the school band Kaputter Hamster was founded , which consisted of the successful high school graduates Peter N. Buchfeld, Frank Linde, Wilfried Krickhahn, Holger Heldt and Arne Linde until 1974. The band played at school festivals, in the youth club at the Exe , the Quellental and in front of 1000 people at the Kurhaus Glücksburgs . Their only record was released in a number of 200 pieces. The LP originally cost 15 DM , achieved cult status and was later traded in the range of 1000 DM, whereupon it was re-released on CD in the 1990s .

The school on the current location

In 1979 the secondary school moved from Tilsiter Strasse to the building of the East School Center at Elbestrasse 10, which was inaugurated in 1976. The secondary school originally located there moved to the old secondary school building, and the secondary school, also located there, moved to the old Osbekschule building. The school's long-lived, traditional school newspaper, the “Tilsiter Cheese”, has kept the early years on Tilsiter Strasse in its name. In 1986 the school celebrated its 25th anniversary. A year later, the five-day week was introduced on repeated request. For the first time in 1989 the Jazz-AG went to Schloss Noer . In 1992 the cooperation with the Goethe School began with the focus courses on biology and Latin . In 1994 the school was partially rebuilt. WiPo (Economy-Politics) was introduced as a new subject in 1996. At the same time, an internship was compulsory for the 10th grade . In 1997 the school got internet access. In October 1998 the special school applied for participation in the European education project Comenius . The Mathematics Student Council has been working together with the Institute for Applied Mathematics at the Flensburg University of Applied Sciences since 2005. Joint mathematics specialist days are offered to pupils at the special school. Since 2005, the regional mathematics Olympiad competitions for the city of Flensburg and the district of Schleswig-Holstein have also been held on the second Saturday in November . From the 2006 school year, the school will be smoke-free again. In April 2011 the Fördegymnasium celebrated its 50th anniversary with a three-day supporting program (alumni meeting, project and games day and a big school festival). At the beginning of the 2011/12 school year, the special school offered the nine-year course.

The school grounds

The building of the secondary school (2014)

The building of the secondary school is a concrete building from the 1970s. Therefore, a comprehensive renovation program was decided in autumn 2012. For example, parts of the building that have been particularly damaged are to be torn down and new classrooms to be built in their place, including for the school for the physically handicapped in the same building, which was housed in the north wing for many years and had to move to container rooms due to lack of space. This project is funded by the EU Fund "Education and Integration" with around 1.5 million euros, the rest of the federal and state governments contribute equally.

The Fördegymnasium has its own small school forest. Under the guidance of a teacher, the forest was laid out in the 1980s and, after a few decades of growth, has reached an impressive height. As part of the project class for the 13th year, the redesign of the forest began in 2011. Old trees were cleared and new saplings were planted in their place. The small pond was covered with a plastic tarpaulin to prevent it from drying out during the summer period. The aim is to be able to use the forest again as a “green classroom”. As an independent biotope, it is home to many plant and animal species, including hares, deer, hedgehogs, pheasants and even the very rare jays have been spotted. The school forest pond is also visited by numerous frogs and toads in spring during the spawning period. The school forest limits the school grounds to the east. It is also sometimes used for vivid botany in biology classes. As part of the redevelopment that has been decided, extensive redesign measures are also planned for the school forest, including the construction of a hedgehog collection station.

The school also has its own tartan sports field , which was renewed in autumn 2005. It is equipped with two goals and four basketball hoops.

A gymnasium, which can be divided into three units, is used for physical education, as well as by some working groups , such as B. the handball club used.

Sports

Since the construction of the gym, school sports have become more and more important and each class has at least two, but mostly three hours of sports a week. Handball is particularly important at the secondary school. The Fördegymnasium is the only school in Flensburg that takes part in the get-in-touch sports project , which aims to make handball interesting for students from an early age. As a result, tournaments with other schools are often held in the gym. Interested pupils can participate in the sport in handball working groups. They are supported by SG Flensburg-Handewitt , the sponsor of get-in-touch . Football tournaments are also often held in which the high school provides teams from different years.

Projects

Comenius program

The secondary school is participating in the Comenius project with six other schools . The cooperation enables exchanges and internships .

Small animal husbandry

Under the guidance of a supervising teacher, students who have agreed to take care of animals kept in school. The children should learn a sense of responsibility in dealing with the animals. For this purpose, cages for mice and aquariums with piranhas and turtles have been set up in the secondary school. The pupils should ensure that the animals are kept in a species-appropriate manner by taking care of the cleaning of the cages and aquariums, of the animals' exercise and of feeding.

Choir singing

At the secondary school, music is rehearsed in various choirs under the direction of Constanze Outzen. Both students and teachers are organized in different choirs. Depending on the age group, there is the possibility for pupils to participate in the lower, middle and from the 10th grade in the upper school choir, which currently (as of 2008) has around 30 members. For music leisure, students drive to Noer Castle to rehearse seven hours a day for four days for the subsequent workshop concert. The establishment of a teachers' choir is also remarkable. In Flensburg, the teacher's choir gives concerts in various churches such as the Christ Church , the Nikolaikirche, the St. Jürgen Church and in churches in Sønderborg in Denmark.

SunOnline

The secondary school has had a photovoltaic module on the roof of the school since 1998, with an average energy yield of around 900 kWh per year. The project represents the school's environmentally conscious commitment. In 2013, the solar cells on the roof were expanded in order to be able to completely cover their own energy requirements.

Environment and people

A project funded by the city was the “House of Renewable Energy” built in January 2011 by schoolchildren and teachers out of wood. It includes a solar system with photovoltaic cells and its own hot water supply through another solar panel on the roof. A hot water tank was added to the hot water system in order to maintain the specified temperature of 30 degrees with the help of an electrically operated boiler . The lithium-ion accumulator , which is also present , in which the excess energy from the supply of the pumping system of the water circulation system is stored for the night, has an output of 15.2 Ah.

With the project, closed systems based on renewable energy are presented to the students in order to arouse interest in the environmentally friendly use of energy and to show the possibilities to do so.
