Math competition

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under mathematics competitions are understood competitions in which within a certain time by the participants math must be solved problems. The solutions are then assessed on the basis of their completeness and the winner is determined. The best known, most respected and most demanding of these competitions is the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). Like these, many math competitions are age-restricted. Typically there will be a large number of winners. There are both individual competitions and team competitions.

Competitions for unsolved problems

While the solution to the task (the jury) is already known in advance for the competitions according to the above scheme, there are also open competitions for previously unsolved problems. Here mathematicians do not compete directly against each other, and there is usually no official participation. A list of such tasks can be found under unsolved problems in mathematics .
