Swiss Mathematics Olympiad

The Swiss Mathematics Olympiad (short SMO or OSM for French : Olympiades Suisses de Mathématiques ) is the Swiss student competition in the field of mathematics for students under 20 years of age who have not yet started their studies. It has been organized annually by the imosuisse association since 2004 and is structured in two rounds. The imosuisse association is made up of former participants. He is a member of the umbrella organization Science Olympiad .

In the preliminary round, participants practice four different mathematics topics. After the preliminary examination, the 25 best qualify for the math camp and the final round. The young talents are awarded medals on SMO Day at ETH Zurich .

A team of six with the best participants is allowed to travel to the IMO International Mathematical Olympiad . The IMO has been held since 1959; Switzerland took part for the first time in 1991. Two other teams are allowed to represent Switzerland at the Central European Mathematical Olympiad and the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad. In 2017, the association organized the European Girls Mathematical Olympiad in Zurich, and ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich were won as institutional partners.
