Volker Dornquast (born June 4, 1951 in Greifswald ) is a German politician ( CDU ).

From 2012 to 2017 he was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament. From 2009 to 2012 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior of Schleswig-Holstein. Before that, he was full-time mayor of the Henstedt-Ulzburg community for 21 years .

Life and work

Volker Dornquast was born in Greifswald / Western Pomerania. In 1953 he fled with his parents and two siblings from the GDR via Minden to Dortmund. After graduating from the Firth High School in Flensburg he spent from 1970 for two years as a regular soldier in Lufttransportgeschwader 63 in Hohn as a reserve officer. From 1972 he studied law in Kiel and began in 1980 after the second state examination as an administrative lawyer with the state government of Schleswig-Holstein. In 1987 he worked in the CDU regional office in Kiel before he was elected mayor of Henstedt-Ulzburg in 1988.

Volker Dornquast is married and has five children and now six grandchildren.

Volker Dornquast has been a member of the CDU since 1971.

On June 4, 1988, he took up his post as mayor of the Henstedt-Ulzburg community after he was elected by the local council with 16 votes to 11 for a six-year term. On December 7, 1993, he was confirmed in office for a further 12 years with no opposing candidate with 23 yes to four no votes. In the direct election on November 6, 2005, he received 72.55% of the votes for an opposing candidate. His term of office would have lasted until 2014. In October 2009 he resigned and became State Secretary in the Schleswig-Holstein state government. He held this office until the Danish traffic lights came into power in June 2012.

From 1998 to 2009, Dornquast was honorary chairman of the Schleswig-Holstein Local Council and since 2002 vice - chairman of the German Association of Towns and Local Authorities . He is co-founder of Nordgate , an economic association of the northern cities and municipalities of Hamburg, and has worked on various committees in the Hamburg metropolitan region for 15 years . He also works as a honorary chairman of several foundations.

On September 14, 2011, Volker Dornquast was elected by the members of the constituency Segeberg-West (constituency 26) as a candidate of the CDU for the state election on May 6, 2012 in Schleswig-Holstein, in which he won the state parliament mandate. Thus it was in the 18th electoral term in the state parliament. There he was deputy chairman of the Committee on Petitions , member of the Committee on Education, deputy member of the European Committee and also of the Social Committee. He was spokesman for the parliamentary group for universities and further education. From 2013 to 2014 Dornquast was a member of the special committee "Constitutional Reform".

Others

Dornquast is chairman of the Henstedt-Ulzburg community foundation. He also holds this position at the charitable Arnold Seibert Foundation. Until 1988 he was actively involved in voluntary reservist work.
