Quellental ( Danish Kildedal ) is an area in a small bay on the Flensburg Fjord near the town of Glücksburg and about 650 meters from the Flensburg suburb Meierwik removed. Quellenental is a popular destination on the fjord.

history

The name Quellental is likely to refer to the location below the local fjord slope, which looks like a valley towards the bay , and to the Adelheid spring located there. How old the name Quellental is is apparently not known. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Quellenental was the favorite place of Duchess Anna Caroline of Glücksburg Castle . In 1801 the Glücksburgische Friedrichsgarde was founded. The shooting club soon began to celebrate his shooting matches at the favorite place of the Duchess. For the actual shooting, they marched to a meadow in Sandwig . Initially, a tent was used for the bar in the Quellenental.

In 1817 Peter Stahlknecht opened a restaurant in the Quellenental for the first time. It was initially used by the riflemen to celebrate, but also as a destination for noble and wealthy people looking for relaxation. Before that, namely in the 18th century , the local forest inn was built on the west side of Flensburg near Marienhölzung . In the 19th century, the tourist expansion on the fjord slowly began. In 1866 Friedrich Mommse Bruhn put the first fjord steamer into service, the Seagull, and thus became the founder of fjord shipping . An excursion destination in the 1870s was the original Mürwik on the then still existing Mürwik Bay . The Baltic seaside resort on the west bank was also created during this time. The Quellenental, the nucleus of tourism in Glücksburg, also developed into a popular tourist destination. The neighboring Sandwig was also expanded for tourism at this time. However, the riflemen of the Friedrichsgarde were looking for a less crowded place and emigrated.

In 1909, the new picnic area has been to replace the old restaurant Quellental opened, the later the nickname Waldschlösschen received. The Adelheid spring was integrated into the excursion restaurant during construction. In addition to its picturesque design, the spring is known for its high sulfur content. The spring water contains a high proportion of sulfuric acid salts and iron. In front of the small building of the restaurant, which is on the edge of the Wille forest , a small park was also created. The result was a jewel that later served as a postcard motif. Not far from here, Soltüde only became a lido in 1924, when the former estate of Baron Schack von Brockendorf zu Petersholm and Thomasgaard was converted into a summer restaurant by the architect Paul Ziegler .

Quellenental nowadays

The marina on the Quellenentaler Bucht is now home to the Flensburg Sailing Club (FSC), which was founded on May 17, 1890, and the Hanseatic Yacht School of the German High Sea Sports Association HANSA . The Quellentals yacht harbor has been described and awarded several times in the past as the “most beautiful natural harbor in Germany”. The berths offer space for boats from 1.5 to 2.8 meters deep. The marina also includes the harbor master's office, a small playground, showers, toilets and a barbecue area.

From the marina you can reach the edge of the bay over a footbridge to a path that leads to the beach promenade in Sandwig. The Menke Planetarium , which has been operated by the Flensburg University of Applied Sciences since 2000 , has been located in this north-western edge of the Quellenental since 1969 . At the bridge mentioned, there are also often people who float model construction ships there .

At the end of the bay, in the south, lies the coastal road that comes from Mürwik and Meierwik and leads into Glücksburg. To the south of the road, in the Groß-Tremmerup forest area, lies the Westerwerker See, whose water usually flows under the road into the Quellenental Bay. But every now and then it is the other way around, so that the water of the lake is enriched by the salt water of the fjord, depending on the weather and water level. East of the bay lies the forest boarding school of ADS-border peace federal , can stay in the young visitors and school groups. There is also a bus stop for line 21 on Uferstrasse, which goes from Glücksburger to Flensburg ZOB . The access road there to Quellental, heading north, also bears the name Quellental. Once a year the Ostseeman Triathlon takes place in Glücksburg, the running route of which leads from Uferstraße, coming from Glücksburg, over the access road, also over the small wooden bridge for pedestrians near Quellental. There are some free parking spaces on the access road.

At the northern end of the road to the east, above the slope, is the aforementioned Wille forest. There was a fitness trail there from the 1980s to the early 2000s . In 2010 the Glücksburger Ruheforst, a forest cemetery, was set up in the local forest. A further distance to the north is the Quellenental stand. On the 250 m long natural beach you can swim, sunbathe, surf and kite surf, fly kites and fish. The site is also considered a popular diving area. In an easterly direction, along the beach, you pass the Winzigerhuk with the fleet command to the Alten Meierhof in Meierwik .

The Adelheid spring continued to bubble continuously all year round. Their high iron content is clearly visible today by the color of the stones. However, the Quellenental restaurant was closed in 2011. After the restaurant was closed, the tourist decline took place with the hope that a new, larger restaurant building with a modern design will give the area a new boost. In March 2013, the city representatives approved the development plan for the establishment of a new restaurant. In the next step, John Witt, owner of a real estate company, planned the demolition of the old excursion bar, the oldest restaurant in Glücksburg, which also serves as a symbol and symbol of Quellental. In 2015, an apparently simple, uncolored new building with a box-shaped base was planned as a replacement. After difficulties in the implementation of the project, new plans were presented in 2016, the building stock is to be preserved and reactivated as a restaurant around 2017. The building is currently still being renovated.
