Jan Schlürmann

Jan Schlürmann (born August 9, 1974 in Flensburg ) is a German historian.

Life

Schlürmann attended the Fördegymnasium Flensburg , where he graduated from high school in June 1994, and from April 1995 studied German and history at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU). He passed the first state examination in 2000 and received his doctorate in modern history in 2004. The doctoral thesis followed a military-historical approach and was awarded the Faculty Prize. Schlürmann then worked for five years as a research assistant at the Chair for Schleswig-Holstein History and at the Chair for Northern European History at the CAU. In 2010 he moved briefly to the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald before becoming a scientific adviser in the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament that same year . From 2012 to 2014 he was also the head of studies and managing director of the CDU-affiliated Hermann Ehlers Academy . Schlürmann, who has researched the history of the art of fencing, is a member of the board of the German Society for the History of Sports Science. V.

Technical focus

Schlürmann's professional focus is on Schleswig-Holstein and Northern European history; but he also published on Latin American history. His main field of work is military history from the 18th to 20th centuries, vexillology and the history of sports , especially the history of the art of fencing . In 2010/11 he was prominently involved in the controversial historical-political discussion about the rebuilding of the Idstedt-Löwen in Flensburg.
