The Tannheimer Straße ( B 199 ) is a state road in Austria with a length of 22.56 km.

course

The Tannheimer Straße branches off from the Lechtalstraße (B 198) in Weißenbach am Lech and leads over the Gaichtpass through the Tannheimer Tal past the Haldensee  and Tannheim to the Oberjochpass on the German border near Schattwald . The Tannheimer Straße is the connection from the Oberallgäu district to the Lechtal . On the German side it runs as the B 308 over the Jochpass ( 1178  m ) as part of the German Alpine Road via Bad Hindelang to Sonthofen .

history

Around 1550, the mule track over the Gaichtpass was expanded into a passable road, which soon developed into the most important trade route for salt and wine transports from Tyrol to Allgäu and to Upper Austria . After a rock break, a new road was built over the Gaichtpass in 1756. After the construction of Arlbergstrasse (1782–1785) significantly fewer wagons used the previous trade route via Tannheimer Strasse.

1909–1912, the Thannheimer Reichsstraße was expanded into a modern road on its current route. The Tannheimer Road is one of the former imperial roads that were taken in 1921 as federal highways. Tannheimer Strasse was designated as B 75 until 1938, after the connection with Austria , Tannheimer Strasse was part of Reichsstrasse 308 until 1945 .

B199  Like the other former federal highways, Tannheimer Strasse was part of the federal administration. Since April 1, 2002, it has been under state administration and continues to have the B in the number, but not the name Bundesstraße.
