The Kleinkirchheimer Straße ( B 88 ) is a 13.7 km long state road in Carinthia , Austria . It is named after the community of Bad Kleinkirchheim . Kleinkirchheimer Straße is the main street of the health resort and tourist resort and also its only connection to the neighboring communities of Radenthein in the west and Reichenau in the east.

In Radenthein (746 m above sea level) it starts as a junction with Millstätter Straße (B 98), crosses Kleinkirchheim halfway, and ends shortly before Patergassen (1062 m above sea level), a district of the municipality of Reichenau, where it turns into Turracher Straße (B 95) joins. The well-developed road has a gradient of a maximum of 9% and runs over the western ramp of the Bad Kleinkirchheimer saddle, a foothill in the west of the Gurktal Alps .

The Millstätter Street , which was listed in 1866 as one of 58 Carinthian district roads, the places Millstatt, Radenthein Kleinkirchheim and the combined Feldkirchener street and the Salzburg Reichsstraße . Since January 1, 1872, it has been part of the network of Carinthian state roads. After the so-called “Anschluss” of Austria , these streets were converted into a first-order country road on April 1, 1940 as part of the standardization of the road system .

The Kleinkirchheimer Straße existed only as a gravel road until the 1940s. After a storm on July 7th and 8th 1946 caused great damage to the road - the brooks overflowing their banks had torn away almost all bridges and parts of the route were muddy - for a long time it was only accessible by horse and cart. First, the road to Radenthein was modernized by 1949, then the through-town road to the Hotel Alte Post was rebuilt by 1961 and the route was finally renewed up to the connection to the B 95 at Patergassen.

The Kleinkirchheimer road was as Carinthian provincial road no. To 1972  13 out. On 1 January 1949, the road between Kleinkirchheim and was St. Oswald added to the power of the Carinthian roads and to 1972 as a national road no.  13 a designated.

The Kleinkirchheimer street belongs since 1 October 1972 to the network of federal roads in Austria . Since then, St. Oswalder Strasse has been referred to as Landesstrasse No.  13 .

 B88  Like the other former federal highways, Kleinkirchheimer Strasse was part of the federal administration. Since April 1, 2002, it has been under state administration and continues to have the B in the number, but not the name Bundesstraße.
