The Sternwald Straße (B 128) was a federal road in Austria that crossed the Upper Austrian Mühlviertel in an east-west direction. It led from Freistadt via Bad Leonfelden , Vorderweißbach , Helfenberg , Haslach , Rohrbach and Peilstein to the Bavarian border at Kollerschlag . The name Sternwald refers to the forest area around the 1122 m high Sternstein , which is crossed by the Sternwald Straße and gave it its name. Sternwald Straße has been part of Böhmerwald Straße since 1983 .

history

The 52.4 km long Sternwald Straße between Freistadt and Rohrbach was created in 1932 by renaming two previous streets :

  • The Leonfelden-Freistädter Bezirksstrasse (19.1 km) led from Leonfelden, where it branched off from the Linz-Hohenfurther Landesstrasse , via Reichenthal to Freistadt, where it merged into the Prager Reichsstrasse .
  • The Rohrbach-Haslach-Helfenberger Bezirksstraße (33.3 km) led from Rohrbach via Haslach and Helfenberg to Leonfelden. It had a 3.8 km long junction from Weißenbach to the Bohemian border, which was renamed Guglwalder Strasse in 1932.

The western section (16.1 km) between Rohrbach and the state border at Kollerschlag was originally called Rohrbach- Peilsteiner Bezirksstrasse and was renamed Peilsteiner Strasse in 1932 .

After the annexation of Austria , Sternwald Straße was converted into a first-order country road on April 1, 1940 as part of the standardization of the road system and designated as LIO 25.

The Sternwald Straße between Freistadt and Kollerschlag has been part of the network of federal highways in Austria since January 1st, 1950 . The 73 km long federal road included not only the Sternwald Straße established in 1932, but also the former Peilsteiner Straße. Since April 1, 1983, Sternwald Straße has been part of Böhmerwald Straße .
