The Bregenzerwaldstraße ( L 200 ) is a state road in Austria . It is 62.3 km long and runs from Dornbirn via Bezau , Schoppernau and Schröcken to Warth where it meets the Lechtalstraße (L 198).

history

The L 200 near Schoppernau
Hairpin curve at Schröcken-Nesslegg

The section between Reuthe and Schoppernau was declared a rival road by the state law of December 26, 1879 . In Austrian legal language, competition refers to the joint financing of a project by various institutions, each of which assumes a percentage of the maintenance costs specified by law. Two thirds of the construction costs should be financed by a road toll, the remaining third should be financed by the municipalities of Mellau , Schnepfau , Au and Schoppernau in proportion to their tax revenue.

1901 began the construction of the Hinterbregenzerwaldstraße from Bezau to Schröcken, which was to be expanded as part of a state road construction program. On the planned construction costs in the amount of 278,700  guilders , the participating Empire of Austria with 40%, the province of Vorarlberg with 35% and the neighboring municipalities with 25%.

From 1912 onwards the section from Schröcken to Warth was also to be expanded, the construction costs of which were 110,000 guilders, 70% from the state budget, 25% from the state budget and 5% from the neighboring communities.

The Bregenzerwald Straße between Dornbirn and Schröcken has been part of the network of federal highways in Austria since January 1, 1949 . The subsequent section between Schröcken and Warth has only been a federal road since January 1, 1950 and was opened to traffic in 1954 after 25 years of construction.

Due to a landslide at the beginning of 2002 from the Saloberkopf to the route, which was partially buried, it was in the meantime necessarily secured with avalanche fences above the pass road on the Schröcken - Warth side . The road has meanwhile been straightened and further supported. The former rock slide had the consequence that a tidal wave the Lech down and rolled over bridges and standing on the river side buildings damaged and washed away. For this reason, successive landslide rehabilitation with support work for the L 200 was necessary in several independent construction phases . The opportunity was used to widen and expand the area of the hairpin curves between Schröcken - Neßlegg and Warth . Necessary road renewals were also carried out from 2007 to 2009.

Since 2009, the Bregenzerwaldstraße has been running through the Achrain Tunnel between Dornbirn and Alberschwende and has a direct connection to the Dornbirn-Nord motorway entrance and thus to the Rheintal / Walgau motorway . On the one hand, this new road layout relieves the neighboring communities of Dornbirn and Schwarzach and, on the other hand, connects the Bregenzerwald more directly to the highest-ranking road network.

L200
Like the other former federal highways, Bregenzerwaldstraße was part of the federal administration. Since April 1, 2002 it has been under state administration. In the other federal states, the conventional street name is continued with B - in Vorarlberg, however, the streets taken over by the federal government have an L in the name like all other Vorarlberg regional streets .
