Location of the community of Munkbrarup in the Schleswig-Flensburg district | ||
Munkbrarup is a municipality in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein .
geography
Munkbrarup is located near Flensburg in Nordangeln and is a recognized resort. The neighboring community of Ringsberg is to the east of Munkbrarup . In the north lies the town of Glücksburg , with which Munkbrarup is particularly closely connected historically. To the west is Wees .
Districts
In the municipality, in addition to Munkbrarup, there are the districts of Balm ( Danish : Ballum ), Bockholmwik ( Bogholmvig ), Geil (Gejl) , Iskiersand (Eskærsande) , Kragholm , Rüde (Ryde) , Siegum (Sigum) and Siegumlund (Sigumlund) . Incidentally, the neighboring Glücksburg apparently has a district of the same name called Iskiersand.
history
The Siegum large stone grave indicates that the region was settled in the Neolithic Age . In the formerly larger parish of Munkbrarup, the Cistercian monastery Rüde (also called Rus Regis ) stood from 1209 to 1582 . The place was first mentioned in connection with the founding of the monastery, as Holdernes-Brotorp . The "Munk" of the place name refers to the monks mentioned. In 2009 the village celebrated its 800th anniversary.
The St. Laurentius Church , built in the last quarter of the 12th century, is a Jutland granite square church and originally had a round apse , but no tower. The south portal is modeled on the Petri portal of the Schleswig Cathedral . In 1565 the church burned down. In 1582, shortly before the construction of the Glücksburg Castle , it was restored. The mighty triumphal cross was transferred from the monastery church to Munkbrarup. The Renaissance altar in the church is one of the oldest Protestant altars in the state. In 1936/37 the church was renovated in the Romanesque style.
The "Hope" windmill, built in 1870, was previously in Meierwik . She is an earth dutchman and was used to grind grain. Today it is used for exhibitions and events.
Since around 2015, Flensburg has been so densely populated that it is no longer possible to create new living space there. The growth of the city and the surrounding area is inhibited and the issue of incorporation therefore plays a role again.
politics
Community representation
Of the eleven seats in the municipal council, the CDU and the Free Voting Association Munkbrarup / Rüde (FWMR) each have four seats since the 2018 local elections, the SPD has three seats.
coat of arms
Blazon : "Under the blue head of the shield, inside a striding, red-tongued golden lion, in gold a vertical blue grate with the handle upwards."
The coat of arms combines symbols of the coat of arms of the Duchy of Schleswig and the sign of Munkbrarupharde , the rust of Saint Laurentius, which the neighboring municipality of Glücksburg also has in its coat of arms. In addition, the structure of the coat of arms is based on the structure of the coat of arms of the former Flensburg district , to which Munkbrarup belonged until 1974. The Schleswig lion is borrowed from the coat of arms of the duchy, whereby, like the coat of arms of the district of Flensburg, only one lion was adopted. In contrast to the coat of arms of Schleswig-Holstein , the lion runs to the left as in the coat of arms of the Flensburg district. The rust of St. Laurentius , the patron saint of the Munkbrarups, was retained as a symbol, i.e. incorporated into the coat of arms. As with the coat of arms of the district of Flensburg, this second element was also inserted below the lion. The coat of arms is also kept in the Schleswig colors of blue and yellow, as was the case with the coat of arms of the district of Flensburg. In contrast to the coat of arms of Schleswig-Holstein and the coat of arms of the district of Flensburg, the colors were swapped. The lion has been colored yellow and he is walking on a blue background. The lower area was therefore given a yellow background. The coat of arms was approved on February 12, 1985.
economy
There are still distinct rural structures in the municipality, but the proximity to Flensburg and the Flensburg Fjord has also resulted in the number of residential areas increasing. However, there is also a commercial and service offering that is to be expanded further.
