Location of the municipality of Nieby in the Schleswig-Flensburg district | ||
Nieby ( Danish Nyby ) is a municipality on the Baltic Sea in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein with the districts Nieby, Falshöft ( Fovlshoved or Falshoved ), Beveroe ( Bæverø ) and Niebywesterfeld as well as almost the entire nature reserve Geltinger Birk .
geography
Nieby is about five kilometers away from Gelting directly on the free Baltic Sea on a peninsula at the exit of the Flensburg Fjord in the northern part of the Angelner Land.
To the north of the village lies the Geltinger Birk bird sanctuary with its reed swamps, dunes and seagrass meadows, where over 200 species of birds can be observed. It is the largest nature reserve in the district. As Natura 2000 areas, large parts of the adjoining areas are protected areas of pan-European importance.
history
The Nieby large stone grave dates from the Neolithic Age .
The place Nieby was first mentioned in the 15th century. The new village (so the name) probably emerged at that time as the successor to the village of Solby, which was depopulated during the great plague . In the 15th century, the area became part of the Düttebüll estate , and smaller properties were at times part of the Rundhof and Gelting estate .
Since 1867/71 Nieby has been an independent rural community, which was enlarged in 1928 to include the part of the Guting manor district located there.
In the 1970s, Nieby was named a favorite for a nuclear waste repository in an independent study by TÜV Hannover. However, these plans were given up "in favor" of Gorleben.
politics
Of the nine seats in the municipal council has Wählergemeinschaft KWG since the local elections in 2013 five seats and the voter community FWN four.
economy
The place where a pilot station for the Flensburg Fjord was located (now an integrated station) is characterized by agriculture, fishing, trade and tourism.
Until 1995 there was a barracks of the German Navy in Nieby. The site had been fallow since its closure, only the telecommunications tower remained in operation. In 2014 it was acquired by an investor who is planning to build a "holiday village" on it.
Attractions
The list of cultural monuments in Nieby includes the cultural monuments entered in the list of monuments of Schleswig-Holstein.
