Schaalby ( Danish : Skålby ) is a municipality in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein . The formerly independent villages Füsing ( Fysing ), Moldenit ( Moldened ) and Schaalby belong to the municipality of Schaalby. They were merged as part of the 1974 territorial reform. Also to be mentioned are smaller farms and settlements such as Kahleby ( Kalleby ), Klensby, Tolkwade ( Tolkvad ) and Winning ( Vinding ).

geography

The small Schlei island of Hestholm also belongs to the municipality of Schaalby and the former municipality of Füsing .

In Schaalby, the number of inhabitants has increased steadily in recent years due to brisk construction activity. The proximity to Schleswig (five kilometers) and the location in fishing directly on the Schlei contributed to this.

history

Several barrows in the municipal area indicate prehistoric settlement.

The so-called Viking settlement of Füsing , a district of Schaalby, which was excavated from 2010 and already existed around the year 700 AD, is older than Haithabu .

Churches

There are two churches in the municipality. The Moldeniter St. Jakobus Church dates from the 12th century and is located on a hill above Moldenit - surrounded by mighty linden trees. Field stone walls, up to 1.30 m thick, determine their appearance. The tower was first mentioned in 1586 and erected in its current construction in 1772. Four round green tendrils are placed around heraldic fields with the emblems of the noble families von Ahlefeldt and Kielmann von Kielmannseck . In 1682 the altarpiece with the crucifixion scene was donated by the founder of the Winning estate - a Mr. Schmidt. His coat of arms now adorns the altar. The church owes its organ to another landlord, Joh. Lüdwig Jügert.

The St. Marien Church is located in Kahleby between the villages of Füsing and Schaalby. It once belonged to the Guldholm Monastery on Lake Langensee, and later to the St. Johannis Monastery in Schleswig. It was first mentioned in 1196 as a Romanesque church, and in the 13th century it was considerably enlarged and rebuilt in 1855 and the tower added. Her special treasure is the Johann Daniel Busch organ from 1784, one of the most important baroque organs in Schleswig-Holstein since its restoration in 1989. The village of Kahleby, which disappeared in the Middle Ages, is one of the oldest settlement points in Angling, with a history going back over 800 years. It was probably created in the immediate vicinity of a pre-Christian shrine. What is noticeable today is therefore the wonderful but lonely location of the church near the Füsinger Au.

The Kall family's watermill was first mentioned in 1464 and was in operation until 1970. Today the fully functional mill is a listed building . After lying in the municipality village Füsing the 1702 resulting also was Füsingharde named.

Districts

The place name Schaalby ( Skålby ) was first documented as Scoleby in 1361 . The name can go back to Old Norse skáli for a detached house , hut or main building of a homestead (see other Nordic place names such as Skálavík ) or to Old Danish skole or New Danish skål for shell , in the latter interpretation a village, settlement in a shell-shaped terrain . The suffix -by stands for village, settlement in both interpretations .

The place name Füsing ( Fysing ) was first documented in 1462. The name can be either from the Old Norse and Old Danish walk (or adverbial fúsliga . See althdt. Funs ) for willing, eager hurry, ready or from Danish fuse for apparent rush, gush be derived. In the latter case, spring water or rapidly passing water could be described. The name possibly refers to the Füsinger Au as an older water body name . In both interpretations, the suffix -ing denotes a (Germanic) job title. The place name has parallels in both southern Germany and northern Germany (cf. Fusa in Norway).

The place name Moldenit ( Moldened ) is first documented in 1352. The name could be in old Danish * mjald as an abutment to old Danish . mold , new dan. muld , angeldän . refer to mól for earth, grit, sand .

Winning ( Vinding ) was first documented in writing in 1462 and is a combination of the old Danish * winnæ (≈ acquire, edit) and the suffix -ing in the meaning of worked land . An interpretation according to Old Norse vindr for wind is also possible , possibly meaning an elevated point. Kahleby ( Kalleby ) was documented in 1196 and means village of Kali in old Danish. -by for village, settlement and potash , probably as a pet form to Karl , Old Norse for man or for a simple but free farmer. Kalhebygaard with the suffix -gaard for yard is documented for 1854. Klensby is documented for the first time in 1196 and describes the settlement of * Klen , a personal name that may come from Low German (ndt. Kleen for small , but cf. also Klenshyttan in Dalarna , Sweden). Tolkwade is documented for the first time in 1649 and describes a ford (Danish vad , Mdän. Vaj , ndt. Watt ) near Tolk .

Incorporations

On January 1, 1974, the communities Füsing and Moldenit (with Klensby) were incorporated.

Of the 13 seats in the municipal council, the CDU has had six seats since the 2013 local elections, the SPD three, the SSW and the Greens two each.

In Schaalby there is the ev. Luth. Brodersby-Kahleby-Moldenit parish. The community is a member of the ev.-luth. North Church . It includes the villages of Goltoft , Brodersby, Geelbyholz, Royum, Geel, Füsing, Schaalby, Kahleby, Moldenit and Klensby. It includes around 1650 parishioners and the churches in Kahleby, Moldenit and Brodersby .

Good winning

The estate is located south of Moldenit and is now used as a horse auction stable. In the entrance gable, the mansion names the year 1671 as the year of origin. However, a previous building is said to have been built as early as 1571 from the stones of the broken-down St. Mary's Church on the Holm in Schleswig.

School system

The Boy Lornsen elementary school is located in the Schaalby community .
